Need some more recipes for Quick Oats...

I've been incorporating whole grain rolled quick oats into my diet...they are a good source of healthy carbs when I need the energy boost! So far I've made a yummy microwave fruit muffin using them. The second recipe I tried was disgusting and that is putting it nicely. It was a breakfast cookie using unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, cinnamon, chopped walnuts and probably something else I can't think of and they were sooooo gross. Thank you Pinterest. So now I need some more yummy ideas that are low fat and healthy and if any of you have some it would be greatly appreciated!

I eat them almost every morning, and what I put in them varies. But right now, it is 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 tbsp of chia seeds, and some walnuts. It is delicious!

I love masala oatmeal. When I was in India last summer, I was eating it almost every day. Now, when I am not too lazy to make it. I use recipe from here http://www.sharmispassions.com/2012/02/oats-savoury-porridge-vegetable-masala.html
  • I haven't tried almond milk or chia seeds! Do you just cook the oats first and then throw it all together like a cereal?
  • I've never heard of the masala oatmeal but a quick google search just brought up a ton of recipes for it thank you =).

  • Baked oatmeal for sure, so many diffrent types! There is a blog called Lynn's Kitchen Adventures and she has a lot of diffrent recipies. I use them as a base but I cut out calories and as much fat as I can. I also do only egg whites, and extra egg. I like the peanut butter one (but it needs extra egg to make it less crumbly). And the pumpkin one is really yummy with a few chocolate chips! Like cake!

    BUMP FOR LATER
  • I eat oatmeal almost every day. I go between steel cut and rolled oats. This morning I had 1/2 cup oats (1 cup water), 1tablespoon brown sugar, 1 packet truvia and a couple grinds of cinnamon.

I actually don't cook them at all. I never liked oatmeal, mainly because after cooking the texture seemed slimy to me. So I put all the ingredients in a container and then stick it in the fridge overnight, and then eat it straight out of the fridge in the morning. Completely changed the way I view oatmeal! The chia seeds are kind of like poppy seeds, they just provide a little bit of a pop when you bite into them. And they add a little protein and omega.

This is one of my favorites - I sub out the canola oil for unsweetened applesauce and add 1/4 cup chopped walnuts. Per muffin with these changes: 156 calories, 31 carbs, 3 fat, 4 protein, 270mg sodium, 3g fiber. Great with plain greek yogurt for breakfast!

A lot of ingredients here but it's all stuff you can buy and keep on hand. I got powdered buttermilk so I never have to make a store run for it.

I eat plain oatmeal every morning and I add some different things in there...today I did 1/2 cup unprepared oats, 1 cup water and 1/3 cup CRAISINS. On other days I do everything but add a couple tsps of brown sugar and cut the raisins :)
