Am I losing my mind? (Not a weight loss question)

Regularly at night I get this sense of doom. All I can think is that I'm going to die someday and it terrifies me. I know that fear of death is normal but this isn't, I get a tight chest, have trouble breathing and my vision blurs. It feels like something is crushing me.

Whenever I think of the future I panic, all I can think about it's death, rape, war, famine, outbreak, the world turning to chaos, the environment dying off, anything terrible that could happen. I have no control over these thoughts, it just happens out of nowhere.

This scares me so much and I just want it to stop. How can I stop these thoughts and the panic? I just want some peace of mind.

    Physical symptoms = Stress.

For the rest, we are not physicians. You might want to try a doc to talk about your obsessions/fears to get GOOD advice or treatment... no offense.

That does sound like a reason to visit the doctor. Like, very promptly. Like, today.

Most definately panic attacks. I used to get them when I was younger. The doctors gave me meds for it , but I'm not much of a pill taker, so I learned how to recognize it coming on , and focused on relaxing. It took a long time to figure out how to control it, but eventually I don't even get the attacks anymore.
    Definately go see your doctor.

You try yoga? Start out with a DVD (I like the ones with Rodney Yee - his style is calming) to learn the basic poses and how to breathe efficiently. Give it an honest try for a week to see if it helps your anxiety.

Have you tried joining a local humanism group or whatnot that'll give you an opportunity to reach out to the community? Doing things that help change the world positively can be empowering. Doesn't matter how small the deed, it makes a difference - both for humanity at large and for your peace of mind.

If the anxiety gets unbearable and conservative measures aren't working, seeing a doctor is not a bad idea. Good luck!
