Should I change my goal?

I am now 1/2 lb from my goal weight and although the results are amazing and drastic compared to where I started, I still have lumps and bumps that I am not happy with. Everyone tells me how wonderful I look and that I'm am so skinny, but at a size 8 I don't feel skinny, just average. My BMI is within the healthy range, 22.1, but on the mid-high side of healthy.
I set this goal of 45 lb loss because I am approaching 50 yrs old and I don't want to be one of those old ladies that looks boney and, well, just stupid. Now I'm wondering if I should reduce my goal by another 10 lbs? Or just maintain for a while to see if my body changes, as it sometimes does.
I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone has on this to help me make a decision.

I wouldn't bother setting another weight goal. Set your sites on body recomposition where you can cut fat and sustain muscle. You would do this with a moderate deficit and heavy weight lifting. WT has so many benefits including better support for your body.0

So, what should I do to get rid of my love handles? Please keep in mind that I have issues with my hips and thus some movements are difficult for me. (Like dancing, vacuming, or sex :blushing: can cause a flare up, repetative rocking motion. I do them, but with caution)0 -

Keep your account at 1/2 lb per week, eat 50% of your exercise calories, and start doing heavy weight training (no more than 10 reps). There are plenty of programs you can look into, strong lift 5x5, new rules of lifting for women, you can use youtube for lifting routines, you can use www.bodyrock.tv for lifting routines, you can use programs like chalean extreme (if your hip allows) or talk to a personal trainer. Lifting will do two things; maintain your muscle and cut fat. Also, set your macro's to 35% carbs, 40% protein and 25% fats.0 -

What is your bodyfat percentage? If that will remain in the healthy range for your age group by all means keep losing. Agree do strength training to tighten up, a good advanced Pilates instructor or physiotherapist or personal trainer specialising in postural issues will be able to work around your hip issues. It's not a good idea to get advice on exercises from (mostly) unqualified folks on a forum - none of us know what hip problems you have.0

I will be working towards the toning. I have never been a weight lifter, that is my husband's thing, but I will do some research to find some toning exercises that are comparable. I thought about buying one of those exercise balls to help cushion some of those moves that I can not do.

I am 52 and when I reached my initial goal I realized I wasn't happy with my shape, also size 8. I set my new goal as fit and five pounds less in four months. As this is a lifetime change, I figure I can change it up whenever I feel motivated to do so.
Congrats on your weight loss. Every year it gets a little harder, so getting it off now is a gift to your fifty-something self. Yay, you!0 -

I am 49 years old at 5'9" tall and need to lose 36 pounds. I am concentrating mostly on losing a few pounds, but want to get into weight training or strength training along with it. You might want to concentrate on that more building more muscle and take measurements as your weight may go up, but you would be building more muscle. This is what I have read of course and what others tell me. Good luck and you are doing great! Very motivating!!! Take care.

Unfortunately, there are so many myths out that about weight training, that many women are afraid weight training. It's also the reason (at least my belief) that women swear up and down that men have a much easier time losing weight. Weight training (especially heavy weight training) will provide greater results than just concentrating on weight loss. When you concentrate on fat loss and work to preserve your muscle, you need to lose a lot less weight to make your body look tight and lean.0
