Lifting Gloves

Where can I get a good pair of lifting gloves? I've never owned a pair and would like suggestions on an affordable but lasting pair.

I don't typically use them but when I do, I prefer regular batting gloves. They will not effect your grip and offer all the protection you need. Many weight lifting gloves have extra padding that alter your grip. Slipping and friction will cause callous formation and batting gloves prevent this.

I only use chalk, but whether you use gloves or not, the calouses will come ; )

I just use chalk mostly, when I do use gloves it's cause I ripped a callous or something (in the picture).
The ones I use are some harbringer ones (not the wrist wrap ones), I think it's called flexfit or something.

Gloves ruin my grip, rather than improve it. As the weight goes up, callouses are unavoidable so I'd recommend chalk as well.

I don't put gloves on if I tear one either :) That's what the bandage tape and scissors in my gym bag are for.

I got mine from sports authority. They were like $20 and totally worth it.

I've always used Harbinger and love them!
  • I spent like $50 and I have Versa Grips.
Amazon has them cheapest (no tax or shipping fees) I really feel like they helped me.....for what it's worth!
I use them when I do back and legs. I really do feel like I"m able to use heavier weights because of the grip. (kinda tacky feeling)
I used wraps for a little while but the wrapping became a pain in the butt.

A friend swears by gorilla grips. I want some, just haven't gotten them yet. They're not gloves, just leather that goes over where you get calluses, and straps that go over your fingers. She says they don't mess with grip at all, just protect her hands.

Unfortunately, my gym doesn't allow chalk. I'm not sure about the Eco-Ball. Has anyone tried that? How, exactly, does it work - is it a resin? Powder? Something else? I'd imagine the gym wouldn't like me using a powder - not sure about a resin, either.
  • I just buy your run of the mill gloves from **Enter retail store here** and use them until they are worn to nothing then buy some more. Normally it is 5 months or so. There are a lot of people who are anti-glove and that is ok, however I use them because during lifting I sweat like a b*tch and I really don't want to be lifting anything over my damn head that I don't feel like I have an amazing grip on.

You can buy them at like a Sports Authority, probably at a Walmart, but your best bet is looking online at Amazon. I bought mine at Sports Authority and use them on my upper days only.

I just got a pair of lifting gloves from the brand Bionic at D.I.C.K.'s. AWESOME. They are the only lifting gloves designed by a hand bone doctor (the name escapes me right now). Pricier than others, but well worth it and will outlast the cheaper ones.

I use biker gloves and they do protect from getting callouses. I only use them on upper body days. My gym doesn't allow chalk.

Chalk can come in a bottle, in a block (powder forms are for powerlifting and maybe gymnastics not the gym too dusty!!!) or ball...I use the block, break some off and carry it is a plastic container to the gym with me...
