"Bad" food?

Just interested what are peoples experiences/views on this with changing their lifestyle, i've done the plans where i've tried to cut out bad sugery foods in my diet and granted its good but realistically for me dieting to change my lifestyle I don't want to cut these foods out for good....with weight training and cardio i'm trying to tone up my stomach but im wondering do i really need to loose the foods....i.e biscuits, sweets....i heard someone say this before, if you want a flatter stomach you need to ditch such foods.

Any tips? :)

No such thing as bad food for me. Just bad amounts. The only thing I've cut out entirely is soda - and even that was because it skyrockets my sugar cravings, not because it's bad for me. Fast food, ice cream, chocolate - I still eat it all. Just smaller amounts of it. I can't live a life without chocolate. Not even gonna try.

If you want a flatter stomach, you need to eat at a caloric deficit to lose the fat covering it. Barring a medical condition or some kind of metabolic sensitivity/allergy, there's no such thing as "bad" foods. Eat what you want as long as you're hitting your calorie and macronutrient goals (especially proteins and fat). That kind of diet is much more flexible and sustainable in the long-term.

    ^This.

I have a few trigger foods that I mostly stay away from, because I want to eat 9 servings at a time, but other than that nothing is really off limits in my book. It's not a free-for-all though either- I plan my treats in to my day and balance the other choices I make to hit my macro targets.

Same for me...I'm trying to focus on long term maintenance even as I'm still working on losing weight. For me, it's unrealistic to say that there are certain foods I will completely cut out and never eat again because I love food LOL. I want to work on an eating plan that I can stick with for life.

I focus on moderation, portion sizes, and trying to make sure that most of what I eat is healthy. On the other hand I do have one cheat day per week where I don't count calories and if there is something unhealthy I've been craving (burgers, pizza, etc.) then that's the day I'm going to eat it. I don't feel deprived at all and I savor that food more since I've been waiting to eat it.

I like to live so i won't deny myself the foods i enjoy. i just practice moderation.

I don't enjoy chips, sodas, or candybars so i am lucky i dont have those temptations haha
  • I have no self control so portion control isn't an option for me. There are certain foods that I label as "bad foods" because I'll binge on them and then hate myself and a slew of self destruction will follow. I have "safe foods" and that's all I eat. I just keep my house stocked with my strange, healthy foods and eat those. I'm only tempted to binge late at night so by not having bad foods in the house, I keep myself safe.

I agree - no such thing as bad foods that are made with good, healthy ingredients. Including ice cream and cupcakes! I just don't eat a lot of them and I don't eat them very often. I do eat ice cream pretty regularly, though as it satisfies my love of sweets and fat. But I rarely eat more than 1/4 cup - with nuts.

As I am more careful with my eating, I find I enjoy good food more and, frankly, have less patience with or desire for food that doesn't taste good.

But boy does that good food taste GOOD!

My idea of a "bad" food is overprocessed crap with a bunch of ingredients in the list that aren't even food.

It is very true that abs are made mostly in the kitchen. That being said, I eat well most of the time and allow for a couple of treats per week to keep me on the beam. I'm not a saint, I still need cookies sometimes lol

You can still include junk/ processed/ sugary rubbish, just keep under 10% of daily calories for health. Sugar and white refined/ high glycaemic index carbs puts the body into a state of stress, and stress encourages fat to be stored on the abdominal area.

I DO consider most things found in a convenience store / gas station to be "bad" food. I don't eat it over processed cupcakes, chips, sugar sodas, and the like. It's not that I'm depriving myself - I just don't want it and it serves no purpose other than to cause cancer and to make me fat.

That said, I do love ice cream - nothing wrong with a little praline now and then. Yum...
