Invisible to Half Marathon!

I dream of running a half-marathon next year, after watching tv- all different types of people being able to get to that point of fitness, to run - people were kind and friendly and joyful - I was filled with awe that people could overcome their problems or finances or daily difficulties to be there and run for charity, brought tears to my eyes.

I have become 'invisible' and I want to turn that around - I stopped caring about myself after my fiancé dumped me after meeting my family, quote, "Girls grow up to look like their mums" ? she was guilty of being pear-shaped and overweight?

I'm looking for ladies who have overcome what has held them back because that's where I want to get to, and any kind men who feel inclined!

Go 2013!

Good for you! I'm not quite ready for a half marathon just yet but this year I started running and worked my way up to a 5k. I've got a 10k picked out in March that I want to run and I found a good 8 week plan to prepare for it.

Being able to set a goal & reach it was such a good feeling! Couch to 5k is the program I followed initially and it was great, considering that prior to this I couldn't even run a mile to save my life

    Best of luck to you!
  • I was just like you I kept seeing all these shows in TV that fallowed people doing these half marathons and marathons and lost so much weight. I thought why can't I do it too. Well I could and I did! I've done 3 half marathons and each time I beat my personal best! Not sure I'm up for doing another one just yet but feel free to add me and we can support each other and you can ask any questions you may have.
  • Thank-you! Believe me I'm a long way off, thanks for your suggestion, I'll start on the couch-to-5k Programme:smile:
A half-marathon really is still a dream at the moment!
    Much appreciated
  • Wow thanks, thats really exciting, I want to be one of those - like you- who get there! Can't wait to even use words like 'personal best' . Thanks for the offer of help, that means a lot , thanks:happy:

JERK! You are so much better off without him. Anyone that shallow isn't worth your time. But hey, now that you're getting into shape, he's going to see you once you're super hot an fit and regret it.

Totally agree - with all of this!

Good luck with the running, I went from being able to run about 100 metres to doing a 12km fun run. It felt wonderful :) And nothing seemed to get the weight off faster than running, and my shape completely changed (for the better!).
