Week Long Break?

Is it okay for me to take a week long break? I was originally going to just do a few days, then today I don't feel good (hungover + bad stomach issues). I've been eating pretty well but I haven't made it to the gym since monday. I feel like such a bum when I don't go to the gym...

no, it's not okay...the gym police are going to come get you and handcuff you to the hammerstrength machine and make you do bench presses until your pecs explode!

lol why isn't it okay, if you need a break take a break, and you will feel even better next time you work out

I just took a break of 4 days after working out hard consistenly 5-6 days a week for 18 mos.

Today was first day back & It did wonders...felt so much stronger and was able to push farther and still feel great.

If your body says it needs a break then definitely take one.

Im just worried that I'm going to lose muscle mass and endurance and with all the holiday grubbing coming up I don't want to lose track

I was worried about that too. But a lot of people on here encouraged me to break and it really helped. I think I had plateaued in my training bc I wasn't progressing anymore. After restarting today I ran my farthest ever distance.

I taken around 4 days off just for a good long rest a few times - it's a nice break, and no problem as long as you don't have a discipline issue in getting back to it after the break!

Not that this is the greatest work of science, but P90x has a "recovery week" every 4th week. Pretty much the recovery week is a cardio/yoga/stretch week. I look forward to those weeks. I'm on Week 10 :)

Good luck! Just get back to it as soon as you can!!

You're not going to lose muscle mass in one week.

Can I just tell ya, I'm on day 4 of not working out and I feel guilty as hell. I need to get back to it too. This Christmas prep is killing me!

If you're getting your Christmas Grub on you're not going to lose muscle. You may lose a bit off your cardio-vascular efficency in a week but nothing you couldn't recover from quickly.

Really, like others have said. Unless you're training for a specific event and you feel run down. By all means....rest.

sometimes its good to take a week break for your body to completely recover from the hell you are putting it through.... you will not lose strength and endurance in 1 week... but limit it to 1 week tops or you will start to lose strength and endurance
