Hi everyone,
I have been using this site for almost a week now. I have to say it's not as difficult to count calories as I thought. Sometimes, it's not the most convenient thing to do, but I am dedicated and really trying!

I quit smoking a little over 8 months ago and of course, gained some weight, but I had already started to gain weight in the last few years. I thought I had done everything right and was not successful at losing any weight, even though I was exercising almost every day.

What I realized when I started counting calories, was how much things add up during the day and how much a few glasses of wine can add up. I find that I am able to maintain the amount of calories calculated for me and what I want to lose, but I discovered most of my eating was out of boredom, so that is something I still have to conquer.

I started with a goal of 15 lbs to begin with, but my ultimate goal would be more like 30 total. I have lost 3 lbs so far (I wasn't going to get on the scale until the 1 week mark, but felt like I needed to see if there was anything happening). I know it's mostly water weight in the beginning, so 3 lbs is probably not realistic in less than a week. But I feel like I am accomplishing something and that feels good. :)

Keep up the good work. My first 10 came off real easy and then I realized it was all in my feet, lower legs and hands, maybe a little in my face. It has been an absolute struggle since that time.

  • Welcome I've lost 45 so far. It's more then counting calories it's watching everything from carbs protein and fats. And making due you meet your protein goal for sure. And making due you get all your vitamins. I've noticed taking a multivitamin makes a huge difference. Well good luck on your journey

Thank you for the well wishes!

I am trying to balance the other things besides just calories. It's going to take some time to get used to. I look at the reports and I seem to do better some days than others. But I am determined to keep going. :)
  • I have found there is some foods that make it really easy to make your goals. If you need milk for protein shakes almond milk then egg whites instead of whole egg makes a huge difference. Green veggies. And so on

I have to make a conscious effort to have fresh fruits and veggies in the house. I tend to shop less frequently so the produce I buy doesn't last till the next shopping trip.

Recently, I have been making more frequent trips to the store so I can keep fresh produce in the house. I am learning to like grapefruit, which I never really was a fan of.

Thanks. I like that it's possible to see how other people are eating/exercising and achieving their goals! :)
