Ouch..Broken Toe!

Hi all,
I went out for a Christmas party, got too drunk and broke my toe. OOOPS! At least I think it's broken. It's my little toe, and the base is all purple. And it frickin' HURTS!
I haven't had it x-rayed as the NHS advice page just says to look after it,elevate, strap up etc... so I am. But I can't walk properly, never mind anything else.
Anyone have any idea how long it takes before you can run or is it dependant on person / break etc? I've read it can be anything from 2 - 6 weeks and I so worried about loosing all my hard work :explode:
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would say go and get it x-rayed!
I fell down stairs in April and broke my big toe then walked about on it for a day in so much pain before I went to hospital. They put a little pot on it and I had to keep off it for a week. Then for 2 weeks after I was doing minimal walking, no stairs, and keeping it elevated. Then I was changed onto a soft cast. 3 more weeks of being careful, using lifts and not walking long distances and I was free!
Still was very careful with it and got twinges quite often. Now it seems fine and all fixed as I do Zumba and walk for miles. Plus I have been attempting the plank - I didn't ask much about exercise as I didn't do any but remember the doctor saying to avoid exercise for 6 weeks and strenuous / high impact exercise for 10 weeks in total.0 -
I'm not sure much can be done for a broken toe. Might be worth an x-ray tho.0

I dropped a dresser drawer (the old-fashioned heavy kind) on my toe last year. It was painful, swollen, and kept getting more purple/black over the next few days, but after that it started getting better. By the end of the week I was back to doing normal activities again, like exercising. There's still hope for your toe, but if you are really concerned see a doctor. :flowerforyou:0

I broke my pinkie toe the Thursday before Thanksgiving of this year and it still has days of pain. It all depends on the shoes that I am wearing. There really isn't much they will do for that toe. They will most likely buddy tape it too the nearest toe but sometimes this is more painful. Getting back to running will depend on how the toe feels on any given day. I did a 5K walk last weekend and didn't have any issues. I haven't tried to run yet because I decided to give myself a little time off from that. I have taken spin classes and I still lift and walk on the treadmill almost daily (3.5-4mph). Give the toe some time to heal. Only you will know when to go back to running. I would advise that as long as it is still swollen then don't run.0

That sucks. I broke my toe a few years ago doing the Soula Boy Superman dance and hit my foot on a chair. So, doing something similarly dumb as you. I was in a boot for 2 whole months. Then, I messed up my back from walking crooked for two months.
I think you should see a doctor and be under his care. You'll need to know when it's not broken anymore so you can resume normal activity.0 -
Advice from our doctors is to strap it up and leave it. If it's still the same in a few days, then get it checked0

Broken many a toe in my lifetime. Unless its your big toe don't bother getting x rays or going hospital unless its facing in the wrong direction.
Just put some cotton wool around it and tape to the next toe.
Rest as much as you can and it should be fine in a week or so to be getting arouns with. Take pain killers if its too much, then just try going for walks to test it out. Should be all good in 2-3 weeks0
