In the early 80's, I did some amatuer boxing and was in the best shape of my life. By the 90's, I joined an old school gym, you know the kind where the plumbing is leaking, the weights look rusty, chalk on the floor, and you were never sure if the locker room or showers were cleaner than you. :noway:
In 2006, at the age of 43, I had become a gym rat and loved every minute of it. In I began to study nutrition. Eventually I went on to become a Fitness Trainer through ISSA, a boxing fitness trainer and a USA Boxing coach. I wanted to train upcoming boxers and mixed martial artists. Heck, I had the skills, the knowledge, and the desire. Then I decided why just limit myself to athletes, people needed help and I wanted to be there for them. Unfortnately, I began with some old injuries resurfacing and went through some illnesses. The next thing i know I am gaining weight because I can't exercise. I get depressed and eat more. I gain 21 lbs.
Determined, I started exercising and eating right and drop down to a good weight for me at 201 lbs. Muscle weighs more than fat.
In the last year, I found out I have a condition that has worsened with my ankles due to age. The doctor said limited exercise. I am 49 years old, I got upset. Three dr. opionions later and all say surgery. Once again, I begin to eat and now I am at 228 lbs and it is not muscle...lol. Next year, I hit the big 50 b-day. I want to be in the best shape of my life. I want to look the part of a trainer and coach. There are no excuses and I have made the decision to reach my goals. I want to be all I can for my soon to be wife, and my kids from previous marriage. I want my kids to know, you got to fight and never give up to reach your full potential. On my bucket list, I want to fight in the USA Boxing Masters Division. I want to train others and spend my life helping motivate people to live a healthy lifestyle. I am a fighter...it's what I do.

  • I am impressed. I think you are a motivation to others. I know your words inspired me. I am a 50 year old nurse. I have had several struggles throughout my life with childbirth, fractures, etc. My most recent struggle ...the death of my brother :brokenheart: I have gained about 15#. I use to walk/jog 6 miles a day. I have lost that drive and am struggling to get started again. But with your words I realize that at least I can physically...Sooooo I need to DO IT. Good luck to you...sounds like you have a good support from wife-to-be and kids. NEVER GIVE UP. And that is what I have done.....I had started training for a half-marathon.....now I feel that I have the inspiration to pick myself up and start over.....THANKS:smile:
