Need Help

Hello,
My name Matt and I have watched my wife transform into a happier person through this site. She has a community of friends that support, challenge, and motivates her.

I am 263 lbs. I stand 6'2" and I am not supposed to be so large. I have lacked the self-motivation and commitment to change on my own and with a little convincing from my loving wife and doctor I am ready to make a change for life.

She showed me how to get started logging food on here and encourages me to search for male success stories and friends from a similiar background which has led me to writing this, so I am asking for the help of a stranger to push me and show me the right direction to help me be a better me for my family and myself.

  • Hello Matt.

I´m obviously not male, but if you need a friend, I´m here. I try to keep the amount of friends low, so I can support and encourage each one. Ofcourse it is all up to you to fight for a healthier life, but we all need someone to cheer for us to make it. I know that I am grateful for the friends here, that I got. Yesterday I had a bad day, and they were there to support me right away. But I´m a little picky, I´m very serious about this and only wants friends who are as well. If you think you can live up to that, jump right in! Just send a friend request.

Oh, and by the way... I´m danish, so my english is sometimes very deficient. Just to warn you.

Nice to meet you and Thank You for the support! As a matter of fact I am quite serious and I will take the encouragment from anyone willing to give it. I was just looking for particulars from a guys perspective with regard to my build, weight and exercise regiment, but like I said I will always accept positive encouragement from anyone.

So, yesterday was a complete failure but today has been pretty good! I still have like 200 cal left and my wife says I should eat a snack. . . but from last nights epic fail I think I should just drink water for the rest of the night.

    Thanks again.

Hey Matt, congrats on wanting to change...feel free to add me. My diary is open and feel free to have a look.
  • Hey Matt!
Number one thing that has helped me motivate myself was purchasing a fitness journal. Yes there is the one on here but I like having something tangible and private ( I guess a little like a diary haha).
But you can write down quotes that truly inspire you, you can store recipes in it and the most helpful part of it is when you look through your week you get disappointed when you see blank or nearly blank days. And everyday you want to do something- anything- just to fill your page up.
I also love reading columns on simplyshredded.com and bodybuilding.com, I know, I'm a girl and I will most likely never be that jacked but the point is that the people that do look like that and are that dedicated not only inspire me but they know all the tricks of the trade. So if I can learn some tidbits of information and apply them appropriately to my life then I come out ahead of the crowd.
I am very excited for you! Take before pictures with your wife and put them somewhere you see them often (if you are comfortable with it put it on the fridge! I however, am not so I keep them in my fitness journal). Visual reminders help wonders and even more so imagination is the key, imagine yourself fit, healthy and happy. Imagine your future self doing the same things you do every day, see how he moves, how he eats, and most importantly how he holds himself. The confidence that comes from taking care of yourself is extraordinary so congratulations! The hardest part is starting and you've already made that first step :)

Thanks for the help and the encouraging words. I will take heed to your advice and search for various ways to keep myself motivated. However, I think I'll keep the before pics to myself, Hell, I can hardly stand seeing me let alone everyone else. but I totally understand the purpose.
