Soup diet?

Hello everyone. Has anyone tried the soup diet? It's a diet where you eat only soup as much as you want, any kind of soup that does not have cream. I wonder if that could work well, since you aren't limited to one soup, so you should be able to get all the nutrients you need, granted you eat a different soup each meal. I was wondering if it would create a problem or get boring real quick.

As soon as I hear the word 'diet', it's a no-go for me.

Most soups are pretty high in sodium levels, unless you are talking homemade. I know I'd get bored fast.
  • yeah, i realize 'diet' isn't the way to go about losing weight, but i do plan on including more soup in my daily diet as i change my lifestyle-eating choices. i was wondering if i could go at it for a month or so, then slowly adjust my diet. by the way, i do make all my soups home made. i make big batches and store them in the freezer, all portioned out.

hahaha :) i guess you are supposed to be a bit more reasonable. but i wonder, how can anyone eat 2000 calories of turkey and stuffing soup.
  • Just integrate the soup in your regular day, I think is great to keep you full and get your vegetables! But eat normally and stay on your calories goal :drinker:
  • yeah, i guess it is just not going to work very well. sighhh. i guess the appeal of the diet is that you don't really need to think too much, just heat some soup you choose and there you are. oh well. onto making balanced meals x_x

I have a bowl of soup quite often..you CAN include it in your calories..just that soup all the time would get tiresome.

    fad diets don't work.
diets that preach that some foods or macronutrients are "bad" are BS.
diets that make you feel deprived don't work.
    cleanses don't work.
    pills don't work.
    etc.

what works is really simple. eat less, move more.

there is room in that equation for you to eat whatever you want. you don't have to deprive yourself. you don't have to fight cravings.

figure out what your daily BMR/TDEE is. subract a moderate deficit from that. target that amount as your daily calorie intake. start exercising. log what you eat. be accurate. be accountable. don't feel guilt or shame if you exceed your calories on occasion. you will lose weight. it's really that simple, and you can do it without having to buy any diet books or pay for meal replacements.

I don't think it would be damaging like some restrictive diets are as long as you were getting a good mix of foods in your soup, but I think you would get bored pretty quick. And if you are just making your home made soups from regular meat and vegetables I think it would be more filling to eat them in the regular form rather than as soup all the time, and the same calories. Or am I missing something?

I like soup as I can eat veggies that I don't usually like in a soup as it masks the taste. But for every meal I would be super bored.

Have a look at the book 'why chinese don't count calories' by Lorraine Clissold for some ideas on how to incorporate soups into your regular diet. I quite often make a thin broth with some light vegetables such as marrow and bok choi that I have with a meal. A great way of getting more vegetables into your diet, and it fills you up.

But I wouldn't just eat soups. It's not a healthy way to diet and you'd be bored stiff by day three, if not earlier.
