Most calories burned at one time?

According to HRM only.

Mine was a century (100 mile) ride that I did back in July of this year. I was only able to finish 75 miles of the ride but I burned 3500 calories in 5 or 6 hours.
I think there was 2 reasons I couldn't finish: 1. I was just starting out cycling and didn't have the stamina yet - 2. I didn't take in nearly enough calories to sustain that kind of cardio.

What was your highest?

I don't remember the exact number, but it was in the neighborhood of 4250. A half ironman race last summer.

I cannot remember the exact number, but I know I've burned a good 2000-3000 in one sitting, back in my cycling days. I rode for 4 hours one time non-stop.

    Those are good memories.

For the OP: Use this book to train for longer bike rides. If you follow it, you'll be able to do a century no problem next year!

I wear my BodyMedia when I go backpacking. Sometimes I hike for 8 hours, carrying a 35+ pound pack, and cover more than 20 miles of mountainous terrain. My highest calorie burn was over 5000 calories on one of those trips.

  • About 2300. Stayed on the Cybex Arc Trainer for 2 hours. Maxed out settings, 10 on the incline and 100 on the resistance.

Mine is 3500 close to 7000 for the weekend. The first weekend of June for the last 8 years, I have cycled in a Fundraiser for MS, called the MS150. 75 miles each day. One year I did 100, the first day and 75 the second. May try that again this year.

    Cool. I appreciate that.
I have almost a full year of riding under my belt now and I have improved 100%.
I'll check the book out though.

Back when I used to bike ride a lot, I'd burn around 1200 kcal (according to my Polar HRM) on a 35 mile ride.
