Someone explain what 'heavy' lifting is?

Everyone talks about heavy lifting but I'm not even sure what that is.
**Please understand now that I cannot go to a gym. I can't afford that, my parents won't let me, I wouldn't have transportation and so on. I have to make due at home.
For example, when I do squats with my two 10-pound dumbbells, I can do about...15 reps but that's it. But if I add 10 pounds in ankle weights (I don't have heavier weights...yet. I'm going to get some 20 - 25 pound weights soon), I can't do more than like...8 reps.
Again just as an example. SO uhm....what is heavy lifting exactly?

Heavy lifting varies based on who you are and what you can lift. Doing squats with 10 lb dumbbells may be hard for one person and easy for another. The point is to lift as heavy as you can with good form for anywhere from 6-12 reps usually. Once it becomes easy you increase the weight. Everyone will tell you something different as far as number of sets and number of reps. Another point is that the last few reps of each set should be HARD if they arent you arent lifting enough. If you dont have access to a variety of weight this whole process will be impossible. Good luck!
