Fibromyalgia and Working Out

Hi I am new here and need support to be successful. I stayed fit most of my life but lost my motivation about five years ago and started slacking on my fitness goals and exercise. Now, not only does my fibromyalgia have control but I am very overweight to boot. I have had fibrous since I was 19 so I know that it can be managed but only with fitness and the right diet. Anyone interested in being a friend and lending support, please do.
I am not always online because if I over do it, sometimes I am in "flare" mode but I will keep in touch and offer all the support and encouragement I can for you on your
journey!!
Any advice on the best way to get started??

My mother-in-law has fibromyalgia. She says the two biggest things that make a difference are how clean she eats and if she tries to exercise. She mostly does yoga to stay active, but she says even going for a short daily walk helps. She hasn't had a flare up in over year since she started eating cleaner, and the more she exercises, the more she loses. In other words, it's possible. Sorry I can't help more. Read around the forums to get ideas about what you think you can handle for now. It's really overwhelming at first, so start slow.0

i sent you a private message! like the above poster mentioned, eating relatively clean and exercising regularly has made a HUGE difference for me. the best thing you can do for yourself is focus on your health, and nutrition and fitness are integral components of that, especially for someone with FM or another chronic disease.0

I just joined MFP last week, and I am over-joyed to have others to talk to regarding Fibro and weight and pain!
I already know i'm going to ramble, but it's because I can finally talk to people who UNDERSTAND. I am the only one i know with this disease, and it's so lonely. People think it's all in your head, or you're just lazy. When i'm having a flare, I can literally sleep for 12 hours and still wake up exhausted. When you have Fibro, and add on IBS, GERD, memory loss, brain fog, insomnia, overwhelming fatigue, days when you can't get out of bed for the pain and exhaustion and have to call in sick, people either think you're "faking" or just a plain old hypochondriac. It's frustrating when you feel like such a freak and a burden. I feel sometimes like i was born defective.
I started with Fibromyalgia when I was in a car accident at 19, but it took almost 35 yrs for someone to diagnose me. All I ever heard was, "you're just depressed, here are some meds" (side effect, weight gain) or, You just need to exercise more (joined a gym, tried Zumba and thought I was going to die, had to take pain pills before AND after class and could barely walk the next day, but was too embarrassed to let others see how much I was truly suffering. (More weight gain.) Had to stop the work-outs, and definitely the Zumba, now can just walk for a half hour on a treadmill or at the track, but by the time I'm done I want to cry from the pain. (So with all this, who wouldn't become depressed?) My weight has shot up 45 lbs over the years, I'm in constant pain, and i'm sick of not liking how I look and feel. But now I have you guys to commiserate with.
I am one lucky girl....
And together, we can DO THIS!!!0 -
I have fibro and a list of other issues. I find that slow and steady is the way to go. I do exercises from my wheelchair currently, and they have helped with giving me more energy. Add me if you want.0
