am i doing everything i can?

i have my calorie set at 1200 per day. i dont eat my exercise calories. im doing insanity 4-5 days a week. i eat as whole as i can, vegetarian and mostly vegan (with the occasional dairy product). i am on day 10 logging my calories but on day 17 on working out and have lost 2 lbs. am i doing everything i can? is there something more im missing which is causing me to stall already in my weight loss? any advice would be so appreciative! I CANNOT AND WILL NOT FAIL!

I appreciate that you mean well and are working hard, but right now you're doing, like, the opposite of what you need to be doing.

I don't know your height/weight stats so I can't tell you how much you should be eating, but 1200 is low. Now we add Insanity, and I don't know which DVDs you're doing each day but the burn rate on Insanity is high. Then you're not eating your exercise calories so my best guess is that you're netting 600 cals per day or so. That's much, much too low to lose weight safely. Also, you seem disappointed that you have lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks. That's a damned decent rate of return and you shouldn't be discouraged and referring to it as stalling.

To sum it up, eat more and manage your expectations. Best of luck

    This.

I did Insanity. Those burns are incredibly high. Did you read the guide that came with the program? They give you a formula to help calculate how much you should be eating when doing the program and let me tell you, it's A LOT more that 1200 per day.
You need to think of food as FUEL for your work outs. You need to eat more.

I would also recommend taking pictures and measurements and going off of those in terms of tracking your progress.

I agree with Dave. I did Insanity and I was eating about 1700-1800 cals a day (net) and lost 12 lbs over the whole program.

The other question is did you measure yourself? Inches lost means you look smaller, much smaller than just lbs lost.

Additionally, I lost almost all my weight after month one, while in month one I lost the most inches. Everyone's body is different, but you need to be eating more, for sure, and measuring yourself. If you do those two things, you will see progress.
  • wow! thank you everyone! i do really appreciate all the advice! i am super motivated and somehow i get so "in" it that i lose sight....if that makes any sense.. but thanks! i will start by eating back my exercise calories and see if that helps. i just took measurements too. i know i get impatient, but thats why i need some swift kicks in my *kitten* to keep me in focused on my goal and not the time frame in which it happens!

DAVE~ feel free to coach me more! :)
  • In my opinion you seem to be doing a great job with how you doing your weight loss. What i can say from experience is that make sure you don't over do it with working out and give your self some rest which you are probably doing right anyways. Also make sure to keep your protein intake up so you can build some muscle to burn the fat. Make sure your keeping a balanced diet others wise your body might change how it gets its energy. You don't want it to use your muscles for energy. I made that mistake in the past. You will lose weight that weight but is not the way to go. The balance of a diet should be around 40-50% Carbs, 25-35% protein, 20-30% fat. Don't become to obsessed with it and just take it in strides. Also you really do want to allow yourself cheat days now and again or your body will want to make up for it and eat really bad foods.

According to the Insanity guide (which also says you should be eating more than 1200 cals), your macros should be about 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fats. I got really good results using those macros as well

It's funny but the saying "you have to eat to lose" is so true! Just make sure it's still quality food. I was eating way to little calories when I first started, working out 4-7 days a week. I have since calculated the correct amount (1800) and I'm finally losing. Also, 1-2 lbs a week is the way to go. I know how discouraging that seems at first. But trust me, it adds up. Hang in there ;)
  • Your body is going into starvation mode. Eat!
  • so, i thought the whole thing about losing was to create a calorie deficit. to eat less than your body uses. im not trying to argue anyone, but how can a person lose weight if they eat more? i guess ill start by eating back my exercise calories and have a goal of having 1200 calorie net by the end of the day? if i did my calculations right, the insanity network says i should eat 1825?!?!!? that really is too much isnt it?

too big a deficit and your body goes into sort of famine mode. it thinks food is scarce so it holds on to fat reserves. feed it and watch the fat melt off
