  • Hi there!

I also suffered from yoyo dieting... SO... I would recommend that for your first step you stop thinking of it as dieting and get on the "lifestyle change" wagon. I don't know why, but for some reason that new mental outlook really helped me to get with the program.

Start by making small changes to your routine (for example: limit pop; sweets; etc.) and build from there... you'll notice a difference in yourself fairly quickly just by taking small steps. Nice to meet you!

    Hello, welcome to MFP.

For me, the first step was for me to ask myself how bad I want to lose weight and be healthy. Then I set a realistic goal that I could accomplish. I logged all of my meal, started walking on my treadmill and friend some really awesome and supportive people on MFP. I have tried sooooo many diets before and I have always gave up or gain the weight right back. Making this a lifestyle was what have helped me stay on course. I don't fell like am dieting but instead I feel like I am making a lifestyle change for the better. If I have one bad day, I start over and do better the next day. Better yet, if I have one bad meal, I do better at the next meal instead of giving up or becoming frustrated. Just take it one day at a time and keep reminding yourself how much you want to reach your goal. YOU can do it.
  • I was DEFINATELY one of those yo-yo people too. I have been yo-yo free for nearly a year now. I have lost 45 lbs and have about 15-20 lbs to go. I suggest taking it one change at a time. If you ease into it and get used to one thing at a time I think you will have an easier time accepting the changes as a way of life rather than a "until I feel good about myself" situation.

Maybe a weakness you have is eating out too often or always going back for 2nds (these were the 2 things that got me going) and work on those 2 things until you have that down and feel ready to add another challenge like joining a zumba class a couple nights a week (also an early on change for me). Once you get going and realize you can sucessfully make one change, the rest start to come easier and easier.

You could also try making a list of reasons that you want to lose weight and putting it somewhere that you will have to acknowledge that you wrote it everyday. Or maybe there is a class reunion, a family get together or a friend that you haven't seen in a long time where you want to impress somebody. Use all of these things as motivation and welcome yourself to a healthy and happy life!

built my profile, planned my goals, checked out all the yummy recipes on this site, and then went to the grocery store and bought what i needed to eat right...
  • Start by counting your sugar grams. Try not to go over 20 grams a day. Be careful with fruit, no watermelon, pineapple, stick with tart fruits, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, no sugar added. Don't drink fruit juice it's just sugar water. Watch your carbs they turn to sugar. Hope you find this helpful. Look into the Duke Diet, or food plans for diabetics.
