I'm planning to start the Couch to 5k program .. has anyone had any success on it? Any tips would be much appreciated.

It made a runner out of me!

Make sure you've got good shoes - if your workout/running/tennis shoes are old and worn out, get some new ones before you start. Even better - check out the running stores in your area and see if any will do a custom fitting for you. Man of them will do it for free with no strings attached (although of course they prefer you buy some shoes from them).

Stick to the program, and don't worry about distance or speed, just do your best to complete the time in each session, and go as slowly as you need to to do so. Slow jogging is still jogging!

Find a 5k race in your area a few months down the road, and register for it. Having a race on the horizon is great motivation to stick with the program - and racing is fun!
  • Thanks for the tips. :)

has it helped in losing weight?

I lost 20 pounds during the C25K program and it also made a runner out of me. Running is (at least for me) highly addictive. I liked that I lost weight and inches and now I do it because I like it and it keeps me in my skinny jeans!
  • Great to hear ... I just started the program today and .. oh boy ... does it kill!! My calf muscles are in agony!!!
