I'm about 5'7" and I'm a teenager. My current weight is 139.5 pounds and I'm not sure what my goal should be. I have a small bone structure and although I'm not big, I still have a good bit of fat on me. I have NO IDEA what my body fat percentage is and I don't know how to calculate it.
My measurements are as follows:
Bust: 37 in.
Waist: 27.5 in
Hips: 37.5 in
Any suggestions on a good weight for me?

well, according to the body mass index (BMI) chart, you're at a healthy weight right now. They deem healthy as between 121 and 153 lbs for your height. Your BMI is 21.8. No need for you to diet!

Anywhere between 115 and 150 is considered healthy.

It seems like you are at a healthy weight and pretty active as is, maybe just add some strength training to tone up, or some more cardio to improve your level of fitness?

    Probably around 130-134lbs

I can give myself as example

    Small frame like you
    5"8,
    current weight 143lbs
    Goal weight 134.5lbs
(Ultimate goal weight 130lbs and no lower)
However if I am happy at 134.5 then I will just stay there

You already look great! How about adding some strength training if your looking for changes?

Agreed. Maybe focus more on eating at a very modest deficit, at most a half lb per week. More important, work to improve your body composition.

  • I'm 5'7" with a large frame. My goal is 155, which last time I was there about 4 years ago, I was a size 2-4.

You are already at a great weight.

I'm at a similar place and it's hard to be happy and comfortable when people say you are great and you aren''t sure.

So I've mostly focused on strength training. It's an adjustment, but so far i am happy.

Why not buy a scale or device (electronic or manual calipers) that gives an estimate of your body fat percentage? It won't be as accurate as a scan or water weighing, but will give you an estimate and a baseline over time.

I can't say what you should weigh. I don't know you and have no expertise. Standard average normal weights for people my weight and height are frequently too high.

Whatever you do, take care of your health.

We're the same height. I've been pretty healthy at around 139. I comfortable and maintain at 135 pretty easily. I like my body best, and clothes fit me best at a hair under 130. When you're selecting a goal weight within the healthy range, It's all about what you feel good in. Try focusing on overall health and fitness, and just see where your weight naturally falls. Also, recognize that at your age, you are at a higher risk for developing eating disorders, so focus on health and try not to get too OCD on numbers.

My guess is that since you do cheerleading you already get plenty of activity and are pretty close to where you should be. I know that it got my daughter into phenomenal shape when she was a competitive cheerleader.

I would agree with other people who have responded that you might want to add some strength training in and maybe some cardio to exercise your heart and help burn fat if you want to see changes in your body composition.

I'm 5'6" and weigh 129, but I'm 42 so probably not a good reference. My measurements are:
    Chest 35.5
    Waist 27.5
    Hips 35.5
    Body Fat 19.2%

I would say set your goal for 135 and meet that and see. Then go down 5 more pounds until you are comfortable with how you look and your fitness level.

My original goal was 145, but once I got there I changed it to 135 and then 130. It just worked for me.

And I think that it's great that you are using MFP and staying healthy starting at such a young age. You won't have to face a lot of the struggles that some of the rest of us have.

    Good luck to you.
