I've been losing consistently at least 2 lbs a week.

Surely it will depend on your starting weight and goal weight too...

1.5 - 2lb is harder and easier to fall off the wagon as you might get hungry and irritated for the first few weeks and energy levels might get to low.

1lb a week is good for most folks and will allow you to function normally at work.

    Thats my experience any way.

I find if I set my MFP settings to lose 1lb a week I don't lose but if I set to lose 0.5lb a week, I easily lose at least 1lb a week as I am not feeling hungry all the time so not prone to overeating on some days.

    I have 25lbs to go.

there is no correct answer. it depends on your goals and your weight and your activity level. a 400lb person can easily lose 1lb per day. a 120lb person may struggle to lose 5lb in a month.

the lighter you are the more difficult it is to lose weight. so that's one point to consider.

Another point to consider is that according to studies, you're more likely to keep the weight off if you lose it at a slow steady pace. Also, that way you're less likely to have huge amounts of saggy skin left after you're done.

MFP sets the standard weight loss goal to 1 lb per week and of course you *can* do more if you want, but if you're really committed to making it a lifestyle change then 1 lb per week is quite good. Something I've also noticed is that as you lose a lot of weight, your brain needs some time to adjust to what you see in the mirror, so again taking it slow is good. For example, I havne't seen a difference in the mirror for the last 5 kg but I DO see other people as fatter than I used to see them. Which is weird and takes some adjusting mentally.

I've lost up to 6lbs in a week, and lost between 3-4lbs on average for the first few months but it's now averaging 1-2lb a week, which I'm quite happy with. Slow and steady wins the race

It depends on the person. I've lost 24 lbs in 9 months. Some lose 2 lbs a week...

When I started, I had 80lbs to lose. I set my goal to 1.5 lbs per week. I lost a whole bunch at first, and then lately, it was working out quite well - one week, I'd lose 1 pound, then the next week, 2 pounds.. Once I lost 3lbs one week and nothing the next.

I was so done with eating 1200 calories (at the 30lb mark, it dropped me right to 1200 calories). I bumped it up to 1 pound per week as a loss. I started it last week. With my weigh in, I lost 1 pound. I'm not complaining :) 1440 calories make me happier than 1200 does!

    Depends:

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.
  • one to two pounds, there are some weeks under a pound....it just depends...

This is a pretty good estimation of what's considered healthiest.

A safe plan for long-term, sustainable loss or mostly fat is the lesser of 1 pound per week or 1% of your body weight.

Yes, some people lose more than that... and they also tend to gain it back later. Lose too fast, and you lose a higher percentage of your mass muscle, which slows your metabolism and makes it harder to stay lean.

Remember that you're committing to a new lifestyle of being thinner, so don't look at this as "how can I starve myself to lose what I want".

    Been here 3 weeks.
without starving my self or even really exercising, I lost 2 kgs first week (4.4lbs). then 1kg (2.2) and this week .7kgs (1.5lbs).
I know it will slow down, but I hope this is NOT the start of a bad downward trend!
