Do I need to mix up my routines?

I walk 6 days a week. I usually walk at the same pace each day at my 70% maximum heart rate. some days I do a 40 min walk and others its up to 70 min. I have done some interval walks but it kills my shins. Is there any benefit to the intervals other than quicker calorie burn or would adding a hill work out be better than just adding speed? I am open to all opinions. just wanting to keep the routine not boring, although i do love to just walk.

The whole purpose of mixing up your routines is to keep your body guessing. It will also help condition your heart faster by doing intervals. As for which is better, speed or incline, that is totally your choice. I prefer incline since I don't have to worry about keeping a faster pace and I can really feel it in my butt if I use the incline.. Hope this helps!!0
