Heya, I don't know about bread mixes (although I can't imagine why they wouldn't work...) but I can usually find wholewheat flour at the supermarket...in the baking aisle? Maybe try a bigger supermarket or health food shop if you still have no luck?

I usually make my own bases (it's really easy and so much better) but recently have switched to wholemeal pita for a base. It's really crispy and delicious!
Unless you like thick crust in which case - I can give you my recipe if you want?!

If there are Indian specialty grocers near you, look for Atta Flour(Whole Wheat). :)

EDIT: Noticed that you're in London - India Hill is your best bet.

    375ml (1 1/2 cups) warm water
2 tsp (7g/1 sachet) dried yeast
    Pinch of caster sugar
600g (4 cups) plain flour (sub. wholemeal)
    1 tsp salt
60ml (1/4 cup) olive oil, plus extra for brushing

I throw rosemary and oregano in the mix too, delicious.
Mix it all together and sit somewhere to rise for an hour - then divide into two and freeze half for next time
    enjoy :)

Also, knead for ten minutes first - great arm workout!

I know for a fact that Asda or even Tesco stock Atta. The Forest Hill area in London (SE23) is also known as 'India hill." I was an SW7 resident and being that I'm fairly locked into Indian herbs, spices and beauty treatments, I quickly learnt where to get what I needed, in its organic to culture form. Sorry about that!!
