vodka is hydrating. 80% alcohol 20% water. NOT!

High proof alcohol is like the one drinkable liquid that isn't hydrating. Bravo for finding it.

    Only water is water.
But plenty of other drinks and food can contribute to your hydration.
So it all depends on your goals and why you are counting.

If you're worried about hydration and energy while you exercise, you should probably count differently than if you're trying to eat less or lower your sugar intake.

More about different drinks and references (as well as the references Sara already provided): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Robin_Bin/view/water-265761

Your body counts it regardless of whether you count it.

Did anyone say that a gallon of honey had the same hydrating impact as a gallon of water?

Do you consider honey and maple syrups drinkable liquids? I suppose technically they are but they're stupid examples because nobody drinks honey or maple syrups as beverages. They still have some water, which you would absorb as water, but not much. I honestly can't say what the hydration result of a gallon of honey on a hot day would be- at ~15% water it would get you like 20oz of water, but I have a feeling the 16,000 calories of sugar would cause a series of other problems.

What is one of these water threads without some "all or nothing" thinking and a few ridiculous examples? Next let's discuss whether it would be good to drink a gallon of liquid Drano on a hot day.

Oh yeah....most people have enough sense to not consider that as a drinkable liquid either.

Well, wait now.... Since honey is hygroscopic, if it's a hot humid day, surely we can get some extra water out of it? (Ok, technically I guess that would be extra water into it...)

Plus, I eat oatmeal almost every day that I add a TON of water to, plus veggies like lettuce and cucumbers that are made up of mostly water anyway and why don't these count towards hydration?

they do count.........they will always count,,,,,,,for the rest of your life

only on MFP will otherwise sane people argue for years (literally) about what are and what are not sources of water

It's ridiculously easy, pretty much a raw (or cooked, but raw tastes better) egg yolk custard, so egg yolks, milk, cream, sugar, and nutmeg (and bourbon.) Then whip the egg whites and fold them into the custard. Bam, egg nog! Feel free to play around with the ratios and ingredients, it's fun and a million times better than what you get in the store. So good and literally takes about 10 minutes. :drinker:

never, never will understand the eggnog fascination..raw eggs are super dangerous to eat, will salmonella, etc...plus gross. i wonder if there some form of vegan nog that has no egg beater, fakey mucous type additions?

so much easier to drink Khalua or rum:-)

    :-)

Super dangerous? The odds of one commercial egg having salmonella on it is 1 in 20,000. In order to get enough salmonella to make you sick, you'd need to eat several eggs. So... yeah, you're more likely to get hit by a car or struck by lightning than to get sick from raw eggs.

My only question is who is going to figure out the how much water is in the fruits, vegetables, alcohol? How can it be so hard to drink water, tea, coffee, etc. and not have to worry about foods that contain water. Why does someone start a thread about water every 2 weeks or less. People, if you have a question, hit the "search" and put in key words. I know you are smart and think your question is unique, BUT it has probably been asked, answered, argued, etc. many times over on this site.

Also don't start asking for crockpot recipes just because you finally get one tomorrow morning. Just put it in Search and get the 200+ recipes that are already listed. Take a minute and look. Thank you for your time and attention.

I think this is the only 'hydration' thread I have encountered that I end up with a happy smile from. I never knew how to make eggnog and I am not a fan of the pre-made stuff.

Well.... I think you need to be sure to drink water on top of your coffee. I went three days with no water- I did get coffee tho. Still landed my *kitten* in the ER.
