Why doesn't all water count as water? I'm curious

It's ridiculously easy, pretty much a raw (or cooked, but raw tastes better) egg yolk custard, so egg yolks, milk, cream, sugar, and nutmeg (and bourbon.) Then whip the egg whites and fold them into the custard. Bam, egg nog! Feel free to play around with the ratios and ingredients, it's fun and a million times better than what you get in the store. So good and literally takes about 10 minutes. :drinker:
What's the non-dairy no-saturated-fat low carb version?
Soy nog.
Tho I doubt it's low carb. two outta three ain't bad!0 -
I don't get it.
Why would one even be counting other things that have water in them as anything other than calories ... Even when I did drink a lot of juice I never counted it as water in. But then I've never really given consideration to hydration beyond feeling hydrated and having light colored urine.
So ... yeah ... anything with water as a component of it (like, everything) "counts" toward hydration, but ... I don't know, I fill my diary all too quickly with just a little food, I wouldn't want to add sugary drinks—or the sodium in the case of diet drinks.0 -

I don't think people are saying, drink juice to be hydrated. What they (or at least I am saying), is if you drink it anyway, yes, it hydrates you.
And I am the same as you - I never track my water or fluids re hydration.0 -
I feel like people are asking so they can use it as an excuse to drink Diet Coke or, "Oh, I had four cups of coffee today, I'm good" ... In one of those "But I can't stand the taste of water, boo hoo!" sort of ways, y'know?0

I couldnt bring myself to read the entire thread so if I am repeating someone, sorry.
Only purified water is pure water. Tap water is not "pure".
All damp foods & beverages contain water.
There are several fruits & veggies that contain over 90% water (cucumbers 96%)
On average about 20% of our hydration comes from food. (could be more if one ate a lot of melons and veggies)
Logic does not support that the 250 lb construction worker shares the same hydration requirements as a 105 lb office worker. Forget the 8 glasses of water bs and monitor the urine. It should be clear or pale yellow.

Why can't they? I do not see what is wrong with it. I drink no plain or even flavored water other than when at the gym (unless I bring my coffee mug, then its coffee). It's not an excuse, it is just not necessary to drink plain water

Heh, I guess it's just a personal feeling on the matter—in so much as I feel better drinking water instead of coffee or soda and also, as it doesn't contain anything additional, that it's important to drink just water.
But I wouldn't try to convert anyone. I hate certain veggies and will only eat them in certain ways, so I'm in no position to actively concern myself in the way people go about their intake.0 -
Unless your drinking distilled water, water has plenty of additional stuff. Sodium, potassium, chloride, flouride, assorted other minerals, chemicals, pretty much anything it decides to pick up along the way. They don't call it the universal solvent for nothing. Water doesn't taste right if it has nothing in it. Of course, sometimes it ends up with stuff in it that isn't very good to drink (cryptosporidium, E. coli, etc.,) that most home filters won't filter out. This is why coffee, tea, and beer have been so popular historically, as coffee and tea are made with water that is first boiled, which kills bacteria, and beer has enough alcohol to kill bacteria. In the 1700's, humans essentially lived on those 3 beverages. Nobody drank plain water, because it would kill them (sanitation being incredibly poor back then.) interestingly enough, the human race didn't die out from dehydration, in fact, it flourished...
Anyway, the general point is anything that is consumed hydrates, and there is no reason to focus on hitting an arbitrary amount of a specific fluid. I don't track hydration either, and I do drink some plain old filtered water, but most of my hydration comes from coffee, tea, soda, and my giant fruit smoothie, with fruit, milk, and juice in it. If I were to track hydration, all of those would be tracked, both in my food diary and in the hydration tracker, I just find it pointless to track it twice.0 -
never, never will understand the eggnog fascination..raw eggs are super dangerous to eat, will salmonella, etc...plus gross. i wonder if there some form of vegan nog that has no egg beater, fakey mucous type additions?
so much easier to drink Khalua or rum:-)
:-)
I drink it because it tastes amazing. Soy eggnog is disgusting.0 -

I drink lots of water, plain. But I still give myself a tick on the counter for tea or hot chocolate or juice.0 -
I ignore the counter completely. Take a glance in the toilet, you'll know if you need to drink more. I haven't had a glass of water in probably well over week and, lo & behold, I'm feeling just fine. I've had a lot of tea, some ginger ale, almond milk and my food.0

I live in the desert. Fluid intake is a way of life here. Not a factor of diet. Just a matter of survival. If it's fluid, it's fluid. You don't get enough fluids, you end up in the hospital, plain and simple. We Desert Rats aren't concerned with what sort of fluid it is, as long as it's a fluid. Fluids hydrate. We never just drink straight water all day long, that's actually dangerous around here, if you aren't careful to also make sure you have enough electrolytes.0

when i first started logging, i was obsessive about drinking enough actual water. now i don't bother with the clicker. i still try and drink water when possible especially when i feel hungry to make sure i'm not really thirsty, but i don't think i really need 8 cups a day. i think it's silly to start logging fruit or whatever as water. it's not necessary.0
