Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!

So, I just have to vent a bit. I spent the weekend with my family. My sister and I are trying to lose weight together and she decided a few months ago to bag the "eating healthy, exercise route" and go with the HCG diet instead. I simply don't have the funds or desire to try the HCG diet.

My sister was trying to convince me to go her route this weekend and I told her no. I told her that I would rather eat healthy and exercise ( the way I've been doing it all along) because it was working for me and I'm actually enjoying it.

My dad told me "YOU'RE STUPID!!" He then proceeded to tell me how dumb I was for all the running I'm doing, how dumb I was for doing it my way instead of the HCG way. He said that I would never get skinny if I didn't do it my sister's way!! I felt awful and I've hung my head in self-pity all week.

Well, today I've decided, I don't care. "MY WAY" is working for me.

What is STUPID is watching my family waste thousands of dollars trying to get a handle on diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. I'm litterally watching my 50 something parents die because of health problems due to being overwieght.

What is STUPID is wasting hundreds of dollars on a "FAD" diet that won't last and could possibly cause harm later in life.

What is STUPID is giving up on learning healthy habits that will last the rest of my life, just so I can meet my families "THIN" standard. I'm strong and healthy and those pounds will come off eventually. I plan to be around for a LONG time and I'm still going to be kickin' when I'm 70!!

What is STUPID is teaching my children to take the quick, easy way out of their problems. MY example will follow my kids the rest of their lives and I won't have to watch my children suffer with unneeded health problems as adults.

What is STUPID is letting my family get me down. I'm doing this the right way!!! And I'm not going to let them and their negative attitude get me down again!!

Sorry for the long rant, but I just had to get it out!!

Stick with it! You are totally right! They'll be singing a different tune when you are thin and stay thin and your sister gains back everything she lost on her "Fad" diet. Don't lose heart....exercise and healthy eating habits are the way to go!

Fad diets don't work.... ever... You have to do it the right way, with a lifestyle change. This is the only way the weight will stay off and you can be healthy. I wish you the best! You can do it!

Keep doing it YOUR way and dont let anyone talk you out of it! It works for you and most importantly, you said you're enjoying it. THAT is what really counts IMO.

Any fad diet will fail the person after they stop it. You're developing patterns of behaviour that will lead to lifelong success.

good healthy habits are way better than any fad diet. I am proud of you for making the right choice and not being STUPID. They are just uninformed. Maybe they will see your way when you have kept the weight off and they have gained theirs back plus some. It is sad to watch. It took me about 8 years to convince my parents that they needed to eat carbs. Healthy ones life fruits and veggies. They thought all they needed to eat was meat cheese and nuts. they lost alot of weight but would fall off the wagon and gain back double what they lost. They finally are seeing things my way. Hopefully yours will too sooner than later.

Everything you said is correct! Shame on your family for making you feel bad. That's what happens when people are ashamed of what they're doing. Somewhere inside, they know they're taking the easy way out and that you're right. That's why they're trying to make you feel bad. Booo!!!

You go girl! Do it the right way.

I agree with everyone. Fad diets don't work - if they did, everyone would be skinny & STAY skinny. Besides, I'd rather do it the right way because that's what I'm trying to do with my life - Do things Right. I've made a lot of mistakes so far in my short life & I don't want to continue on that road. I do not think that a hormone injection is a good choice. Who knows what else is in there?

Keep your head up & you're thinking clearly. It is STUPID to let other people get you down. Keep up your good work!

I don't even know what HDG is!!!

Some people just don't know how to talk. It's amazing how they don't think before they say something.
    KEEP AT IT!!

What's really stupid is alienating and insulting your children for choosing their own path when you should be loving and supporting them. Keep on making the good choices and block out that STUPID negativity!

You absolutely Rock. Having all the pressure from your family and still say "Suck it up i do it my way if you like it or not" is something that needs LOTS of strength. You can be proud of you for being that strong. And you will show them that your way is a great way, i am sure :)

It's hard arguing with your family and even tougher standing up for yourself. I hope one day they'll see that you chose a healthy lifestyle that you can live with instead of a quick fix you can't sustain.

Good for you for doing it your way! The right way. Don't let your family drag you down, I know mine can be like anchors sometimes :grumble: Just keep on smiling, and doing it the right way. Yeah, it may be slow, but it will also have longer lasting results than a fad diet will have. You know your sister's body will go into starvation mode and that when she is her goal and starts eating properly again, she's just going to gain it all back (and maybe more)

Hold your head high and keep on keeping on :flowerforyou:

You keep it up! You are doing it the healthy way. The healthy way might not always be the quickest way but it is the only way that will have lasting results.

It's sad that family can be the hardest us.

YOU ROCK!!!! You might just be the smartest person in your family. :drinker: :drinker:

Additionally, you have enough moral fiber to share with your family.

I must be honest, I had never heard of an HCG diet, so I checked wiki. OMG, I must re-affirm what I just stated about moral fiber and intelligence. :noway: :noway: Here is a quote from wiki:

"Because hCG is produced also by some kinds of tumor, hCG is an important tumor marker especially (with clinical significance) in Gestational trophoblastic disease[1], but it is not known whether this production is a contributing cause or an effect of tumorigenesis."

Now, I am not a particularly intelligent person, but, what I read here is they don't know if HCG is the cause or effect of tumors. Are we (Americans) really to the point of messing with cancer in effort to lose weight.

    And another quote:
"...the diet started to spread to specialized centers and via popularization by such as the author Kevin Trudeau, a specialist in promotion. :explode:

The controversy proceeds from warnings by the Journal of the American Medical Association and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that hCG is neither safe, nor effective as a weight-loss aid."

Finally, here is a link to an article that talks about various weight loss scams, including HCG. It is too long to repost here, so just follow the link. Bottom line, the AMA and FDA say it is not safe. The inserts in the bottles say it does not work. And it requires a 500 calorie diet for up to 40 days. :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble:
