Fitbit or Bodymedia fit... or........

I love my FitBit, but I just got the Polar FT7 for christmas. My question is: Is there any differences between the woman's model and the mens other than the color? I got the mens model and I don't want to open it if there is any big differences and I should try to exchange it for the woman's version. I am pretty small so I am a bit worried that the main difference is size and will the men's verson be small enough to fit me.
from Amazon Customer Reviews...
- The women's watch is black with a gold stripe down the center of the band. I found the design to be all right. It is less flashy and colorful as the other models, which is one reason I like this watch. I can wear it with my work clothes and it does not stand out much.0 -
100% BodyMedia Fit Link if you have a smartphone, for sure... Having a real time calorie count that is monitored even when you are resting really helps you get an idea of your TDEE and how it can change from day to day. If you're going to spend 100 bucks or more on something, it definitely seems a better bang for your buck, especially with all of the integration that you have now with MFP, HRMs, and scales.
FitBit only works if you are moving around so I guess if you want to monitor exercise only, it could work but for me, I wanted something that could give me a total picture. When I first adjusted my numbers with the BMFL, I was stuck, and then started dropping about 3lbs every 6 days or so. There's so much good information that it can provide you, and it is great that it can link up with smartphones so you can see your calorie burn up to the minute, as well as use the built in MP3 player to create workouts with prompts to your own music, and see your intensity in real time during workouts.
Actually the fitbit one does that as well.
I used to be a body media fit girl, and am now a fitbit one girl through and through. I hate how bulky, obvious, and ugly the BMF is. It was CONSTANT questions by everyone. I like that the fitbit one is discreet.....I can wear and track even when dressed up and it doesn't detract from the cuteness (because honestly....who wants a big honkin' piece of whatever armband when they're wearing a cute dressed for whatever? but you want to have it on all the time, for the benefit of it's purpose.....cue fitbit.)
I wear mine clipped to my bra, and check the sync/progress throughout the day on my smartphone.
In order for there to be constant questions, you'd have to be wearing it in a place that is not in accordance with where they indicate... I find most of my shirts cover the upper arm enough to make it discreet. I don't find the newer models bulky at all. It's great that FitBit managed to get to smartphone syncing but as far as I know, you still have to be near the dock for the info to feed to MFP, which with BMFL, you do not.
I got the BodyMedia unit because I wanted something that would tell me what I burned throughout the entire day. I didn't want it to calculate based on an average person my size if I was sitting still. FitBit doesn't have the ability to give you that kind of information.
Basically what it comes down to is what information you want and how hardcore you are about it. I think people who want to be really detailed with their calorie plans should go with a BodyMedia device. Using bulkiness as a primary reason to avoid it is silly since you can adjust things manually to account for times you can't wear it, like when swimming. It has been invaluable. Most people I know that started with the FitBit that were on the path to getting really serious ended up graduating to the more detailed readings of the BodyMedia line.0 -
I actually have both. I use fitbit for the social aspect (i.e. tracking activity with friends) and for tracking general steps. I link my bodymedia to myfitnesspal because I feel that the calorie burn on there is more accurate.
Of the two if I were to choose one for weight loss I would choose the bodymedia.
Same here. I got the FitBit first, but wanted something a little more accurate on the calorie burn. I wear both! Plus, I have the older FitBit so it doesn't sync with my phone like the BodyMedia does.0 -
I was about to get the Fitbit Zip, but I just saw the Striiv. In theory it looks a lot funner than the Fitbit, so now I can't decide!0

No, it’s calculates off of your movement/steps.0 -
Which Fitbit do you recommend? There are various models? Which one is the best buy?
I also have the same question for the Bodymedia. Which model?
not sure which one to purchase, as I have read pros and cons for both on these message boards.
Thanks!0 -
Have had body media and love it and so does my doctor. Have the FitBit One and it is great for steps. Rely more on my body media than the fitbit.0

I was super stoked on the Striiv too but they only have an iPhone app and not Android. Killed that idea real quick.0 -
