Does this sound right?

I have been doing great the past month with my calories and stuff that MFP has assigned me... I have dropped 14 lbs in one month, having 1800+ calories a day, exercising 5x a week for an hour and a half a day. Well, I went for my check up at my doctor and she lowered my calories to 1500 a day. This seems odd to me. Isnt it technically bad to lose more than 2 lbs/week? if she seen that I was averaging over 3 lbs a week, why would she tell me to keep exercising as I do, and lower my calories by over 300? Shouldn't that make me lose even more?

Not to mention that going from 1800+ to 1500 is proving to be a bit hard.

    Congrats on your weight loss.

Did you ask her these questions? Perhaps a net of 1,500 not gross?

Don't listen to them....you are doing great at that limit, so stick to it. You are doing great without the MD help, so don't take it now.

I agree with the previous poster. if what you are doing is working, stick with it. You'll have more muscle gains and less lean mass lost while dieting if you keep your cals where they are, anyways. A doctor should know that.

I would suggest calling the doctor with these questions, not us crazies on the net! :)

Did you go to the doctor for the purpose of asking about weight loss, or was this just an aside? If you don't need to lose a certain amount in a certain time, or you don't need to lose a lot right away for some health problem, then I would keep doing what you are doing. If, however, you have some health issue that is directly affected by your weight, I would follow the doctor's advice.

thank you for everyone's responses... I have been going once a month because I was going to get weight loss surgery. I am rethinking that now... seeing that it IS possible I do it by myself. I have no health issues at all, so that wouldn't be why she would want me to lose a lot quickly.

My research has shown that a healthy rate of loss is actually about 1% of your current weight weekly. I'm not sure what you weigh, but given that it looks (from your ticker) like you are looking to lose quite a bit, I would say the rate that you are losing is just fine.

Was this doctor a general practitioner? It seems odd, but often general doctors don't really know a lot about weight loss. It's darn near impossible for every doctor to be an expert at everything. So, unless she is a specialist in weight loss who figured out your BMR and activity levels, she probably doesn't know how many calories YOU should be eating.

Keep doing what you have been doing, it's working for you.
