What would you MFPers say the best calorie tracker is? And is their one that does both track calories burned and monitor heart rate? I am thinking of buying one as I am starting to do more free weights and calisthenics and less machine workouts. Thank You =)

Garmin HRM (Forerunner is good). The built-in calorie estimators SUCK on most watches IMHO. Instead. Get a decent chest-strap HRM, and use this formula:

    The Journal of Sports Sciences provides a calorie expenditure formula for each gender. Men use the following formula: Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.2017) -- (Weight x 0.09036) + (Heart Rate x 0.6309) -- 55.0969] x Time / 4.184. Women use the following formula: Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.074) -- (Weight x 0.05741) + (Heart Rate x 0.4472) -- 20.4022] x Time / 4.184.

You want one with a chest strap but be aware that a HRM isn't going to give you an accurate burn for lifting.

Heart Rate Monitors USA (HeartRateMonitorsUSA.com) is having a great sale on heart rate monitors. I bought a Polar FT7 last year for about $85 and they now have them on sale for $69. Just thought I'd share the news!
  • I use a Nike GPS watch w/ polar heart rate monitor, it has a hr only mode for cardio, it's pretty accurate.
