So i saw my grandmother over the holiday and she said I looked really good. She asked me if I was trying to lose anymore weight and I told her yes, because I want to be a size 8 and I'm a size 14 right now. She took my wrist and wrapped her fingers around it and said I need to stop because her wrist is a "size 8" wrist. I need to stop at a 12. I don't WANT to stop at a twelve. I get she's trying to be helpful (maybe), but it's my body. Has anyone else ever told them they need to stop?

Yep, you'll probably hear it a lot and often. Ignore, ignore, ignore. Not their body, not their damn business.0

Yeah, I still have 21lbs to go before I feel healthy and my MIL has been telling me for months I don't need to lose anymore. I find it very frustrating because although she is just trying to be nice, I DO need to lose more weight, I needed to lose weight 10lbs ago when she was telling me I didn't. I just try to not let it get under my skin.
On Christmas Eve I called my grandma and told her I had lost 30lbs so I needed to go shopping for pants.....she said "Oh that's wonderful, you were getting kind of big". I know she didn't mean it in a mean way, but womp womp. I would have rather she said that I don't need to lose anymore!0 -

It's not like you are going overboard with the fitness/weight loss, so I think you should just ignore her. I've never been in that situation, but I've had somewhat similar experiences a couple years back.0 -

I can't agree with this enough! I know that it's annoying (I've heard it as well) but it's all perspective. If you're not happy yet with how you look/feel, then don't let someone else change your mind. Easier said than done I know but you're doing this for you, not anyone else0 -
Yeah people tell me I don't need to lose any weight and guess that I weight 130 which is my goal weight. I'm 156. Screw them, only person that really knows ur body is u!0

Before I started lifting heavier and I had lost the weight all my friends and family and co-workers kept telling me to stop losing. I would tell them I'm not on a diet and I just basically just kept doing what i was doing. It can get annoying when people try to tell you to stop especially when they have an unhealty lifestyle. :noway:0

Be prepared, the closer you get to your goal weight, the more people will say those kinds of things to you. "You are so skinny," or "you don't need to lose any more weight" seem to be considered compliments. They are offensive compliments, but people say them nonetheless.
Stay focussed on your goal. Don't listen to your "supporters." Simply smile, say thanks, and let them know how great it feels to be healthy0 -
yes people get used to see you as a chunk so when you lose weight they are not used to it and think you are going to get yourself sick. if you are eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle and you have a reasonable weight goal you want to meet then do it.0

I've quit sharing what size I am, instead I share my body fat percentage. When someone asks "How much have you lost?" My answer is always "Eight percent of my body fat. But I'd still like to lose 3% more. I'm currently at 21% body fat."
Most folks don't understand what their body fat percentage means, so the conversation usually ends there. They tend not to ask about it again, either.0 -
thanks everyone
I have 50 lbs to lose, but i'm more focused on my body comp and I'm lifting today (yay)

I got that so much for my family. I actually didn't see how thin I was getting. So what did I do? I started to maintain and I gained 15lbs in 4 months. I never stopped working out but I just ate whatever without tracking. Hate to see how much more I would have gained if I didn't work out.
Don't worry about what other people say. Do what's best for you and go off how you feel. Because not only am i'm trying to lose the 15lbs I gained but another 15 so I wonder what they will say then but I won't stop until I'm ready to maintain.0 -

This is brilliant and I'm going to start doing that!0 -
I got this A LOT. Don't listen.
Even if you're six foot tall, a size 12/14 is not too skinny, even without vanity sizing.
Heck, I was still in the overweight category when folks started telling me I was too skinny.
With 2/3rds of the population being overweight, and some even obese, people are used to seeing fat everywhere. They think it's normal. It's not.0 -

I think that's a big part of it. People refer to me as "thin" and I guess, comparitively speaking I am, but I am actually 25 pounds above what is considered high-normal for my height.
I think of what my mom used to say---"If everyone was jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you, too?" Well, no. So even though everyone is used to 25 extra pounds looking like "normal weight", it doesn't mean I have to accept it!0 -
I get that too, my issue is I lose weight down..I lose it in my face, chest, stomach then thighs and butt. I lost almost 50 lbs two years ago, and everyone told me I was too skinny (because you could see my chest bones colar bones) but what they didn't see was my butt and thighs that are covered better. You know your body, don't listen to others. You need to be happy with what you see, and that should be a healthy you0

I was told that too. So damn annoy, but I just ignored them. They say that, but I'm still overweight at 193 and I'm 5'8". Do what makes you happy.0
