Night Time Eating

How do you control it and what's a good snack if you must have it? Usually I can't sleep unless I am eating something just a side effect from my medication.

How do you control it
Same way I would attempt to control eating at every other time of the day.and what's a good snack if you must have it?
By the end of the day, the nice thing is that you've ideally logged your intake leading up to this point, so you should know very well what you have left for calories remaining, and what macronutrients you still need to eat to reach you goals.
I would choose a food item you enjoy eating that allows you to hit those numbers as closely as you can.Usually I can't sleep unless I am eating something just a side effect from my medication.
There's nothing wrong with eating at night provided you are able to hit your totals for calories and macronutrients.0 -
Night time eating/snacking is hard for me to fight. For some reason, my body screams, "GIVE ME SOMETHING SWEET!" at about 8:30pm. I have 1, count that, 1 dark chocolate Hershey's Kiss. It gives me what I'm craving, and it only cost me 20 calories. Sometimes I may have a half a portion of almonds or a tablespoon of almond butter and half an apple. I would say, keep it small, and healthy. Hope it helps!0

Good point I usually account for any night time snacking into my calories and burn it off in the morning.0

Save 100 calories and pop a single serve bag of popcorn. It takes a while to eat it, gives you something to chew and is filling. If you like sweetness try the Kettle corn single serves. I've seen then from Jolly Time and Act II.0

If you know you like to have or need to have a night time snack, why not just plan that into your day and your diary? I've found that proper planning leads to greater success and it's nice having your day mapped out. For example, I know when I get home from work that I'm going to have a few cocktails or a glass of wine or two...I plug that into my diary in the morning when I'm mapping out my day. This way I'm not all bent out of shaping and wondering how many calories I have left over when in the evening and I'm not having to cut out essential nutrients just to have my treat.0

If I'm so starving that I can't sleep I will eat a string cheese. It's filling enough that I can go to sleep pretty quickly.0
