Anyone who is/going gluten-free?

Hi everyone. I've hit a very rough patch, but on Jan 1st I'm having a fresh start, stronger than ever! I really want to go GF on Jan 1 and would like some GF friends with open diaries  I think it would really help motivate me!

This. You are better off not eliminating food for no reason, when you add it back, which you almost certainly will do (unless you are cutting for a REAL allergy reason), you will not sustain any loss you MAY have seen.

Why are you going gluten free?

My mom and I both think I am either sensitive or have a high sensitivity to gluten. I experience some of the symptoms, but I'm going to get tested to be 100% sure. And of course, to be healthier.

Going gluten free doesn't make you healthier. There are a ton of gluten free alternatives which are actually unhealthier than the items they are replacing. Only go gluten free if you have an intolerance or an allergy because otherwise you are restricting yourself from so much food and you are probably going to be paying more for food because its labelled 'gluten free', for no reason at all.

I have a gluten intolerance and my diary is open (though lately is hasn't been very indicative of my usual diet), feel free to add me if you like.

I'm not gluten free entirely, but I eat an array of other grains in place of wheat frequently. My diary is open or you can friend request me. :)

As a disclaimer, I've been a bit off track traveling, staying with family, holidays, etc.

I have been trying to go gluten and dairy free for almost 3 months. This is per doctor's order. I am sure I have a intolerance because I have been off track during the holidays but today I am getting back on. I am going to open up my dairy. I am finding a lot of MFP users like that....I did not realize it. Anyone can feel free to add me to your friend list.

Me me me! I was gluten-free for 2 years and felt great. When I re-piece together the things that contributed to my recent weight gain and I am certain that it was that I resumed eating gluten. I am going GF again. My original reason for going GF was to curb migraine pattern. I do think it forced a healthier menu overall. Yes! GF! I will add you to friend list so that we can check up on each other or share good resources/recipes.

    :)

    Good to meet you.

I am trying to figure out a few health problems I have not been able to pinpoint. Arthritis/inflammation, gut issues it is best that I don't detail, skin issues, thyroid, etc. I passed the bloodwork test. However, even the doc still advised that it is a good idea to try going gluten free to see if it makes a difference. Sometimes the bloodwork does not show it fully with someone who is sensitive to it.

I have put it off for a month or two. However, I intend to take the plunge for at least 30 days or so, hopefully more like 60. Then I intend to try adding it back in to see if there is a marked change. I figure it will really "tell the tell" that way.

I have no desire to really live gluten free for kicks. But I also keep coming back to it when researching these various problems. If it does solve those problems, I have little doubt it'd be worth it. The only way to find out is to try.

Depending on how that works, I may check dairy next. Which for me, is mind boggeling as I am a completely dairy nut.

When you say you "passed the bloodwork", do you mean the thyroid panel or the thyroid antibodies tests? I passed thyroid panels for two years while feeling horrible. At the advice of a specialist I recently had a thyroid antibody test that indicated Hashimoto's. My other thyroid numbers look perfect. My symptoms sound identical to yours.
