Hey mfpals. .. how many pounds on average did you see a drop in pants size. . Is it every 10 15 or 20-25. Pounds for every pants size? ? Thanks for responding

that's going to be different for everyone depending on their height and proportions, as well as fat/muscle distribution.0

I might be an exception, but after losing 25 pounds I've only dropped one pant size. Can get into pants two sizes down, but they are tight. Had ordered a made to measure suit before i started MFP so I have been measured in summer and and again a couple of weeks ago. Did lose 5.5 inches from my waist, 7 inches from the bra band and 1.5 inches from the biceps. Just wish I had dropped more pant sizes.0

I think this will depend on starting weight/height and also body composition (fat/muscle etc)
For me it was about 9lbs (137 to 128) and I went from an Aust size 10 to size 8 (US size 6--> ?4)0 -
Well I've lost 21lbs and gone from a Australian 18 to a size 16 being to big but a 14 too small...0
-
I don't know really. I started off last July around 220lbs, but i'd only just had a baby so was carrying more weight around my belly because of that. I guess I was a US pants size 16 then. I'm 56lbs lighter now at 164lbs and can wear a US size 8, although some size 8s are a bit tight.
I guess it depends where you lose weight from. I've found that my hips have shrunk a lot which has surprised me. I've always had an hourglass shape and often my big hips have meant me getting a size bigger in jeans to fit them, so then they've been too big on my waist. Now with smaller hips that doesn't seem to be a problem.0 -
IMO it definitely depends on body composition. At 242 (5'7") I was wearing a 20. I am at 201 and 16's are still too tight. about 9 years ago, I weighed about 210 and could easily fit in a 16. So I'm guessing this time around, I have a lil more fat than muscle0

It's really going to depend on height/body composition, as well as how much you have to lose in the first place. It also depends on how you carry your weight and where you lose it from first. For example, you might lose weight, but lose it mostly from your face and extremities to start with, and not see any change in clothes size. If you lose it predominantly from your torso, then you'd see a more dramatic change in clothes size.
For me, for a lot of my weight loss (starting with a BMI of about 37 I think) I seemed to go down a size roughly every 15 lbs. As I got closer to goal though, I would go down a size by losing a smaller amount of pounds.0 -
There is some analogy buried in the message boards here about a roll of paper towels and each paper towel representing a pound. So the first 10-15 pounds got me from a US size 14 to a size 12. then the next 10-15 pounds got me to size 10.. the last 10 got me to a size 8, and the last 5 have gotten me to a size 6 (all US Jean sizes).
So with 45 pounds gone, I went from a tight size 14 jean to a easy to zip and fits with no bulges size 6 jean.. I am 5'8" and female...
If you can find that analogy about the roll of paper towels, as the roll gets smaller, the towel covers more area of the remaining roll. That's how my weight loss went as well.0 -
when I lost a lot of weight years ago, it was usually 10 lbs. but I was also losing a lot of inches.0

I started feeling a difference after I lost the first 30lbs, that migh've been a 1/2 size difference. Now, at 108lbs gone, it is a BIG difference in pants size - I used to wear a 32-34 in womens pants and a 48-50 in mens :noway: I am fitting into a 42-44 mens and I have not even tried on a pair of womens simply bc I don't like the fit or the feel :grumble: and I look funny in them :frown: (that's what I would see looking in a mirror). But its going to be difference for every body type.0

I am 5'7" I have lost 60 lbs almost and gone from a size 16-18 (239.9) to a size 10-12 (180) depending on the store.0
-
Let's see. I am down to a size 6 from an 18. That's about a size every 10 lbs. It was definitely not linear though! I think I went down one size the first 30 lbs. After that, size went down much faster.0
-
For me it was 10-15 pounds at first and then my last size change was only like 5 pounds, if that. Lately my pants have been determined by exercise, not weight loss0

Ive lost 26 lb and gone from uk16 to 12.
But i've noticed that i like my pants alot tighter now.
I used t o get a nice baggy size, now i choose omerhing that shows everything off.0 -
A long time ago when I weighed 156, I was in a size 9. When I lost 36 lbs down to 120, I was in a size 3/4/5.
Now, after weight gain, being pregnant and gaining 50 lbs, and having my baby, I started this time at 180 after delivery of my baby, was in a size 16 pant. Now, in the 160s, in size 14. It was somewhere in the 170's that I went down to 14 from the 16.
I am 5'.25" tall.0 -
I'm going to go with the "It depends on your build/body type" responses.
I've seen folks on here drop 100 lbs , fo from a size 18 to a size 4, at a new weight of 170 lbs. I know of others who are at 170 and sporting a size 12, simply because of how and where their weight is distributed. Fat is also less dense than muscle, so you could "lose" a small amount of weight, only to have a decent amount of fat replaced by muscle that takes up less space. (They weight the same, but take up different amounts of space.)0 -
I'm short with wide set hips, so even at my thinnest, I never dropped below a size 9. (I wear junior's jeans.) I started out at around 14-15, now I think I'm down to an 11. Hard to tell, though, as screwy as women's sizes are. I've lost 14 pounds, but dropped something like 6 inches.0
-
I have lost 34 pounds - started at a 16/18 pant and am now down to 8/10 and/or smalls - my strength training includes lots of squats and lunges to tone my thighs and my exercise is mainly walking for 4-5 miles (ever other day when I can get outside), so I've been working hard to lose and tone my legs.0
-
I went down a size about every ten pounds.0
-
It's not necessarily purely pounds lost to drop a pant size.. when I started MFP I dropped 39 lbs and 6" in the waist on my pants.. I've gained back that weight and am losing again, 9 lbs.. but I never did go back to the prior pants. I'm STILL in the ones I was able to wear 40 lbs lighter... so while I regained weight I had changed some of the body composition in the meantime. Those pants need a belt to stay in place so I could probably even go to a smaller size!0
-
Wow, it definitely is different for b everyone. down 15 lbs and went from a 14 to a 10, but I've lost more inches than pounds because I lift weights0
-
I have lost 29lbs and still haven't changed pant sizes, but I am getting close the pants I have are loose. I also have quite a bit of weight to drop.0
-
It's definitely going to depend. I've lost 46lbs and went from and 18 to a 10 in jeans. I don't know if that helps.0
-
i eat t a moderate deficit and my main workout is weightlifting, so it seems for every pound i lose i also lose an inch of fat from all over. so 21 pounds lost and i've gone from a size 22 to a 14.0
-
I'm 5'8" and it was 10 lbs per size.0
-
im 5'5 and started at 210 in a size 16,im now 171 and in a size 14. i cant get into a 12 even with losing 39 pounds0
