Has anyone had any results from spinning? If so... how often did you attend class? Did you alternate between other kinds of workouts?

I've been attending a 45 minute class 3 times a week. I've also included some weight training, walking, and a kick boxing class.

I'm just wondering if what I'm doing is going to pay off. Let me know what works for you!

I think spinning is a great workout. It is a great way to burn calories, but I would be careful, a lot of people claim it burns 1000 calories/class. I wear a monitor and the most I have burned is about 700, but on average I burn about 550 for a 60 minute class. I spin 1-2 times/wk and run about 3 times/wk. I say do what you like. I started running and did my 1st 1/2 marathon last year. Signing up for races has been a great way to keep me motivated.

i noticed that... When i researched, it said that you could potentially burn up to 1,000 cals a class. I only log 550. I'de rather shoot low than assume i'm blasting more than I am realistically.
I enjoy running myself. I've ran a couple of 5k's but that's about it. I'll be getting out as the weather progressively gets warmer! Nothing beats the feeling you have after finishing a nice jog that's for sure.
    Thanks for the support!

I have only done spinning once so far but really enjoyed it. I dropped a kilo overnight after doing this when I'd been plateauing up until then so I think there must be something in it. I wore a heart rate monitor during a 45 min workout and burned just over 600 calories, so its not a bad exercise.

I love spin class! I try to go 2-3 times a week. I never log more than 500 on MFP however. It all depends on how much you over-exert yourself. Don't push yourself so hard that you feel like you are going to pass out. The nice thing is you can regulate your intensity and if you feel that a certain part of the class is too hard you can dial it down a notch.

Also I find if you have a good instructor and great music it is so much easier to push yourself harder each class. Finding a "fun" thing to do at the gym means you will go more often, longer and stick with it. Good luck spinning!

I'm a huge fan of spinning. I go 4 - 5 times a week and with my HRM I burn anywhere from 600 - 900 calories a class depending how long the class is (some at my gym are 50 mins. and others are 60 mins.), the instructor and how hard I push myself. I used to run all the time and then developed an issue with my foot and the specialist recommended that I stop running. I tried to continue running but it made the problem worst so I stopped altogether. I found that I gained weight when I stopped running even though I was still working out. Then a friend suggested spinning and I've never looked back. Sometimes I start a difficult class and feel like I'll never make it through but the feeling I get when I can finish a difficult class (plus the high I experience after) makes it all worth it :)
