    Well done!

For me, MFP's guides are pretty crappy too be honest. Protein is way too low and fat is low too, while carbs are way too high for me.

Weight low has been good, do what works for you!

Same for me. It's funny. Last night I had so many calories left over from all my walking and shoveling yesterday, that I contemplated having an Entenmann's donut. After looking at the box for a minute, I thought "I'd actually rather have a banana".

I watch the guidelines set here, but I don't follow it religiously, I mostly try to keep my sodium down because if I overdo it, I feel gross and bloated. I try to make healthier choices in what I buy and cook. And I have not deep fried anything in years. Only lightly sautee things in a little olive oil now or bake them.

I follow the calories but am usually under. It's really hard for me to get 6 small meals I try but it doesn't always happen. I try to plan my meals for the whole day that way I know where I'm at or need to change what I'm eating. I agree about the carbs being high I do carbs 30% protein 40% and fat 30%. I am still trying to hit the protein I seem to always eat less than that. Any suggestions on protein intake? Besides the protein powder. I do eat a lot of meat and veggies but once I'm full that is what is still limiting my intake

This this this! You put this perfectly for me.

I've given up a lot of processed foods. I only drink water, and am working into "clean eating".

the only one I have a problem with is the sugar! I'm always over...I like fruit and it has a lot of sugar. Other then that I just follow calories and watch the salt, sugar, fat and fiber.

Yes, I know, but most people don't change it because they don't know what to change it too so just follow the MFP guidelines. And those guidelines are pretty bad too.

    I do a carb/protein/fat at 50/30/20

Mostly Low GI carbs from whole foods such as fruit and vegetables

    Protein mainly from lean meats

Fats usually from nuts, seeds, and oily fish (the occasional steak and pork)

Supplementing with whey protein and steel cut oats when I need to boost my protein or carbs but don't have time to cook whole foods.

I manually set my Macros recently, but up until then,I followed the guidelines set forth by MFP. I try to eat lots of lean meats, vegetables, nuts, and fruits, but I also eat things that I enjoy as long as it fits within my goals. Yesterday it was cookies, today it is brownies. I don't look at this as a diet, but instead a lifestyle change.. be consistent and you'll see results
  • i eat clean, and try my best to stay in my calorie range. I dont pay attention to the protein, fat guildlines they gave me, cause really as long as i stay within my calories I lose weight.

Add me as a friend and find out?

The last couple of months I've been eating more plant based and a lot less meat. I'm actually shocked I have been able to change my diet like this. I'm also surprised at how full I can feel off of what I used to consider such low calories. But the foods I'm eating aren't nearly as calorie dense as what I was eating previously. It makes a bigger difference than I ever thought it would. Looking forward to the long term progress and health benefits now.

I went to a dietician who told me to eat 1200 calories a day to lose weights. this of course is based on my age and height. She also told me to look at the plate and half of the plate is veggies, 1/4 is carbs (brown rice/potato) 1/4 protein like nuts meat and eggs. This of course adds fat like salad dressing and nuts. then I use MFP to monitor my calorie counts and log my exercise. I also use the body media pedometer that I wear all the time to make sure I am getting enough exercise. I use OA as a back drop to my emotional eating and food addiction hence that is why I plan my three meals in the morning and commit to that. It also helps with the other emotional baggage. I had to use a dietician to go over a plan for me so I highly recommend that. I hope this helps.

Go through your own diary you absolutely do not eat a lot of veggies, I don't think you hit even four on any day in the last couple of weeks, several days you tracked zero or one serving. Stop skipping breakfast, don't waste so many calories on ice cream pizza and potato none of which contain much in the way of nutrients, make your snacks high protein (cheese, hard boiled egg whites, nuts, seeds). You are eating a lot of processed rubbish and little fruit, vegetables, oily fish, nuts, seeds or reduced fat dairy. I am concerned your mineral intake is low as well as fibre, vitamins and essential fatty acids.

If you want to eat, say, 150g protein over five meals/ snacks split that down to 30g each. Then add in your nine servings of fruits and vegetables, your allocation of healthy fats, say 50g, and see what calories you have left for wholegrains, beans, lentils and sugary/ refined treats. You seem to be working backwards or according to the standard American diet: if you start with a meal based on starchy carbs you won't have room for the protein and veggies. Prioritise differently.

MFP gave me 1770 calories. I eat anywhere between 1200 and 1600 per day. The only other part I try to pay attention to is sugar, as my body is sensitive towards it.

I portion everything, pay close attention to cals, and try to eat as fresh as possible. Everything I purchase is usually light, fat free and definitely sugar free... I don't do fast food, deep fried and etc.

    I've lost 54 pounds since September 12th.

My problem has always been portion control. So I still eat the normal foods I enjoy but just eat less of it. I added some extra calories to my day from what MFP gave me.

Edit to say: Have lost 19 pounds since mid October.

I do MFP 4 months out of the year and have been here many times over the last 3 years.
I try to follow their recommendations for the most part, because they just work.
When it comes to macro's I customized those to reflect specific goals requiring more protein.
To each his or her own.
    Whatever is working.

I'm not an organic eater. I am on a budget with two children and am in school. What I do eat has let me loose 13 lbs in 3 weeks. I was curious what others do. I'm not going take away the foods I enjoy completely. My weight is from over eating, a lack of portion control which I now use portion control by actually measuring my foods. No need to get rude for what I eat not everyone eats and likes the same foods.

I always went way over my protein! (Have done MFP off and on over the years) I would have a sandwich round with 2 egg whites and some deli turkey.. Spread a little laughing cow cheese for flavor. Very good, filling, and you get your protein.

I'm on a budget with 3 kiddos :-) My friends all consider me the Clearance Queen. So I know how you feel. I've discovered by me personally eating better and portioning that our grocery cost has gone down considerably. (Woo Hoo)

    Today so far I've eaten
    Breakfast :
2 packets of sugar free Great value instant oatmeal (100 cals each) and 1 TBS of Great value peanut butter (95 cals)
Coffee with sugar free creamer.. 60 cals.
    Total 355 cals

    Lunch :
    Don Pancho 100 cal wrap
Chopped up Amy's veggie burger (That I found closed out price at Fred Meyer) with lettuce, pepperoncini and 1 TBS olive oil mayo.
    10 red seedless grapes.
    Total 333 cals.

So far 688 cals for me today (plus a few glasses of water) and I'm full. Since I shop on a tight budget too, I drive to a couple stores where I know items will be cheaper (lol). My side salads I keep simple, just a couple cups of ice berg lettuce ($1 a pack) and a couple TBS of light Great value dressing. (Less than $2 a bottle and it lasts me forever). Good healthy and inexpensive snacks are fruit.. Bananas and fuji apples are the most inexpensive. Red seedless grapes are a little more spendy so I only buy those every once in awhile. Baby carrots are an incredibly healthy snack and they are about $1 a pack.

Sometimes for quick easy and still healthy dinners I'll make myself healthy request Chunkys soup ($1.50 a can at Wal Mart)
Wal mart also discounts their meat sometimes. Every single time I go there, I head for their meat department and look for the yellow stickers.

But honestly 13 lbs in 3 weeks is AMAZING. Good job! Keep up the good work. :-)

I customize my own for low carb. But I desperately need more fruit and veggies in my diet. Oddly, since I was a supposed vegetarian for years (more like junkfoodtarian) too many fruits and veggies make me queasy and I never liked them unless smothered in cheese and sauces or ground up and processed as a veggie burger.

So yeah, I need to customize it even more and make it yell at me for not getting enough potassium, for one thing.
