Ellipitical = ???

When I go to spinning, I "ride" 18-20 miles. And feel like a ROCK STAR!!!! When I'm on the Elliptical I go about 3 miles, and want to jump off a bridge. (B/c I hate it and it's boring. Not b/c it's hard.)
What does spinning equate to on a real bike outside? And what about the Elliptical? I know the Elliptical is easier then running. I can do a mile in 6 miles, I run a 10 min mile outside.

    Try turning your resistance up by 50% as well as adjust your incline? It will be much harder then lol

    I use the Elliptical as my primary cardio...I work out at home. I too found it hard to stay motivated cuz it's boring. I use loud music to keep it going.. and now I bought a KOBO mini... it sits perfectly on the dash of it, so I go at a moderate pace while I read during 1 song, then the next song I stop reading, and go super fast during the next song...and I alternate for at least 30 minutes. This way I do HIIT workouts... and keep it fun and challenging...and burn mega calories... hope that helps! :happy:

    Either one I need music for or I find them boring.

    I've got a cable TV in front of my elliptical. It makes it a lot less boring. I can watch a football game or cooking show (gack!, did I say that?) to pass the time while I'm sweatin' it out.

    I don't know anything about spinning, but the "miles" on an elliptical shouldn't be compared to anything other than elliptical miles. They don't translate to any other exercise because the motion is so different and there's no impact- you will never be able to compare it to walking or running or biking. It's only good for, say, trying to do more mileage in the same time (w/ same resistance) than you did the last time.

    This!

    I hate cardio equipment. I would much rather do some sort of outdoor activity. However, in the winter months, I'm tied to my elliptical and stationary bike. I also incorporate HIIT into my routine and will switch back and forth between the elliptical and bike while doing so. I will also do upper body workouts while peddling. This gets me out of my basement sooner and makes the time go faster!
