That glass of red wine in the evenings keeps me sane! Not sure if I should give it up or not?

It can stop your fat burning because alcohol is metabolized in a way similar to fructose. Some can handle it---some cannot. Men handle alcohol better than women do. Red wine is the healthiest of all alcoholic drinks (and there is little to recommend most alcoholic drinks). The resveratrol (a potent anti-oxidant that can actually repair damaged DNA) that red wine contains almost makes it worth the calorie expenditure (but you could eat red grapes instead).

I love my wine just like you. but, I did find this:

"Your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs. Thus drinking slows down the burning of fat. This could account for the weight gain seen in some studies."

It sounds like it basically slows down your metabolism, or at least has the effect of doing so by burning the alcohol instead of things it could be burning to aid you in your goals. HOWEVER, obviously other people on here have successfully continued to drink and have had great success! I may experiment for myself!! :)
