Does the body retain water while sick? I'm up a couple pounds but I shouldn't be.

I've been sick for two days. I started off with a low temp of 95.2 ... then It went up to 98.7... I've been going from really cold, without being able to warm up...to really hot and sweating...I've been feeling really nauseated and I haven't been eating much. yesterday I only ate about 900 cal. I've been sleeping a lot but I'm still logging everything I eat and drink. I've been drinking extra water to keep hydrated. I've got congestion and an upper respiratory infection. I weighed myself this morning because I hadnt in a week, and I went from 163 to 165.... I'm feeling a lot better today... still tired and achey... still having drastic changes in body temp.. but other than that... I'm mostly fine.

My doctor told me that when we get sick we retain water. I usually maintain or gain a few oz. when sick... Rest assured if you drink lots of water and exercise next week you will be down what you really lost this week plus what you would have lost next week as well. Typically I drop a lot after recouping from illness. I hear it is normal. Hope you feel better!
