FitBit question regarding calories from my Polar F6

I just got a FitBit One on Christmas. I only just connected it to my MFP account yesterday. I've been using the FB since Christmas and have been entering my food and activity on the FB site. Now that I conneceted it to MFP, I have been entering my food and activity on MFP which was my understanding.

I just walked to the gym, did C25K Week 3 on the treadmill and 10 minutes on the elliptical, and walked back. I was wearing my FitBit and my Polar F6 heart rate monitor (with a chest strap). As per my Polar, calories burned for the workout was 356 so I entered that manually into MFP, then synced the FB.

As per FB, I walked over 10,000 steps today. That doesn't seem right to me. The walk to the gym is about a mile one way, so two miles round trip. I went to the gym shortly after waking up. It seems like the FB is counting my workout. If I am not mistaken, when I went to the gym on Friday it did not do that.

So come someone please clarify what I may be doing wrong?

I may be wrong but I think adding in your workout whilst wearing fitbit will over ride the calories but not the steps. I take my fitbit off if I'm going to add in exercise calories from my HRM

This! I wear my fitbit, since i count workout steps toward my daily goal, but I override the calories with my HRM too

I have typically found the FB to be pretty accurate on calorie burn for walking\running. I also where a HRM when doing these activities and the difference for me has been negligible, so I don't enter it manually. For weight training, I will often override since the FB is not all that good with that type of exercise.

The steps actually sound pretty accurate to me, it would not be unusual to get 10,000 steps going 2 miles+. The only way to truly know would be to use GPS and match up the miles (not the steps). If you have a smartphone you can use something like Endomondo or RunKeeper to track the miles and compare to your FB. If you find they are way off, you can calibrate the FB to be more accurate. I found this helped with accuracy on mine.

If you do choose to enter calories manually, it will override what the FB provides and will sync those calories both ways.
  • I do not wish any steps in my workout to be counted towards my daily steps. So I will take the fitbit off when working out. Thank you!

Should I turn the fitbot off when working out? I don;t even know how to turn it off, lol.
