also if you want to try something a little different than crunches and situps you can look on youtube and try the P90X Ab Ripper X video, it's a pretty awesome workout.

Here's a good site to look at. Also Pilates and Yoga work your core pretty good.

This might sound odd, but paired with cardio - doing 8 minute abs every day really works! I got the flattest stomach of my life when I ran 2-3 miles 3-4x/wk and did 8 minute abs as often as I could (1x/day)...trust me on this one. It's a lame video with some sweet music in the background, but the moves are the right ones! Try it out!
Here is the youtube link (or if you don't trust links, just search "8 minute abs" and it'll pop up):

Try not to laugh too hard at the spandex outfits everyone's sporting along with the 80s porn background music....seriously, this is a great abs work out you can do at home!

    Best of luck!

I've been looking for something for this too. I'll have to try the 8 minute abs video. I already do plenty of cardio.

I used the ab roller (or something like it) once a day for as long as I could stand it when I was preparing for a belly ring awhile ago. I was surprised to see the results because using it was actually fun. I have to start using it again to get rid of my lower belly. I will check out that video too.

Honestly since you still have some weight to lose, doing abs isn't going to really do anything for a pooch. Tightening your stomach muscles isn't going to remove the layers of fat over them. You're going to have to just do your cardio and keep up the good work losing weight. The pooch is the last thing to go. I've found that running for me really did the trick. I run 20 miles a week and it is a total body workout like no other. When you run, you have both feet off the ground simultaneously, which causes you to have to pull in your stomach, to keep your balance, and really works your abs. So maybe try to incorporate some jogging into your routine. Good luck!

Thanks! This is the first time I have heard a good explanation of the benefit of running beyond cardio and burning calories!!!

I asked my personal trainer a similar question. I work my abdominals hard with every workout and according to her they are the strongest part of my body. However, I still have the belly pooch that will not go away. She told me to think of my abs like a mountain and right now (in my case) there is a layer of snow on those mountains so we need to melt that layer of snow so that we can see those mountains. Sounds kinda silly, but totally makes sense. Cardio is the best way to burn fat, but since I am limited with what cardio I can do due to injuries she has me doing circuit training. Cardio or anything that really gets your heart pumping should burn the fat. Stick with it!
