Breakfast

My whole life I was raised on cereal for breakfast. I realize now with this new lifestyle that most cereals are not good and are full of sugar. I've been able to continue eating cereal throughout my journey and still lose weight, but now I'm looking for new ideas to transition myself into eating a more nutritious breakfast. Anyone with a similar experience or any good suggestions for breakfast?

I don't really mind sugar, honestly. only reason I try to keep it down is because of the high-cal aspect. so I don't think cereal is bad at all. actually, I use it as a late-night snack, often, just munching it dry.
but for breakfast, I went with eggs for a long time. kind of burned out on those, so I've switched to coffee and toast, maybe, or something else light. bacon's always good. greek yogurt, maybe. (which, if frozen, lasts longer and seems to be more filling.)
the general idea for me is to take the hunger edge off, but not to use tons of calories. I prefer to use those during the final 12 hours or so of my day.0 -
I too was raised on cereal for breakfast. My drug of choice was Frosted flakes. Ive transitioned to better habits now though and have dropped the sugary cereals. I can suggest 1/2 whole wheat bagel with almond butter and half a banana, or another one is 1/2 cup oats 1 tbsp almond butter sprinkled with cinnamon and a few raisins. Good Luck!0

I actually have retained cereal - I have all bran or weetabix because they're low GI and have the lowest added sugar out there. I weigh my portion and add a few raisins, and breakfast comes in <300cals.0

I think everyone was brought up on cereal. I now eat a lot of oatmeal, turkey bacon, waffles and egg substitute. Homemade burritos are great too.0

Lots of great breakfast ideas out there.
Wrap with peanut butter wrapped in a banana is my favourite on the go breakfast.
Kashi also makes a pretty decent cereal, but my favourite is Shredded wheat with berries.0 -
I have realized that my cholesterol was high b4 starting this journey an I love breakfast favorite meal of the day to ill have it any time. I have switched what i eat. I will have the egg beaters some turkey sausage an some toast or a heart healthy English muffin. Very good an keeps you under 350 to 400 cals or less if done right. The turkey sausage was surprisingly tasty. If u want throw veggies into it to kick it up if you whatever ur pleasure. Also the chopped turkey bacon or turkey bacon bits taste the same an just as good. Thats my take good luck0

Hi Bailey!!
Scooby Workshop recommends Shredded Wheat with FF milk and a piece of fruit (that is what I had today). He also likes egg whites with veggies.
My Insanity book has:
1) Oatmeal with protien powder and chopped walnuts
2) Fruit and cottage cheese
3) Smoothie
4) Bagel and lox (smoked salmon)
5) Omlete
6) Yogurt with fruit and nuts
I think, from all my reading, that it is best to stay under 300 cals if you are doing 5-6 small meals a day and under 400 cals if you are doing 3-4 meals a day.
I think it helps to have a good protien and carb mix to keep you full.
Anyway, I am still learning myself but hope this helps.0 -
I go with oatmeal with 2 tablespoons peanutbutter and one scoop chocolate casein protein mixed in. tastes awesome, and im on a build, so its a solid breakfast for me.0

I like cereal. Eat it every day, all different kinds, including the occasional super sugary kinds.
Oh, and for the record, I'm amused with people suggesting oats as a replacement for cereal, seeing as oats ARE cereal.0 -

Breakfast cereal is my biggest binge food. For me the only way to handle it was to make it leave the house. It is the one food I asked my family to never get again. If it's in the house I will eat it. I will eat all of it. Sigh. I now have variations on eggs with a protein. I'm low carbing it so that fits right in with my diet plan.0

Smoothie, scrambled eggs with veggies, fruit omelette, oatmeal with jumbo or steel cut oats. It's worth running a search, this comes up regularly.0

coffee
skip eating breakfast
save those calories for later0 -
I like cereal but I rarely eat it because I don't find it filling...well, the suggested serving size isn't filling. haha. Breakfast for me is usually eggs, either over easy or scrambled with peppers and cottage cheese. Sometimes with toast, sometimes with turkey bacon, usually fruit of some kind. Coffee to the max.
I also really love the "pancakes" that are just an egg, banana and peanut butter. So good, I have them about once a week...sometimes I add walnuts or chocolate chips or strawberries...always delicious.0 -

New diet: no cereal. No grains, actually.
Eggs and bacon after a workout.0 -
I don't see any problem with eating cereal for breakfast. I still do something. I just get the cheapest kind with the lowest amount of calories per serving.
But if you really want ideas for breakfast, I suggest checking out skinnytaste.com. There are countless breakfast recipes on there that are low calorie but still taste good. There's even a recipe for Egg Nog Pancakes.0 -

On topic: I do a whole egg, over medium, with a bagel thin. This is at least five days a week. Sometimes I'll use egg beaters instead.0 -

According to your post you've been accomplishing what you want to accomplish while eating cereal. You seem to enjoy cereal. If you like eating cereal for breakfast and it fits within your calorie/macro goal then why stop eating it?
1) There is nothing inherently wrong with cereal or with sugar.
C) Eat what makes you happy and fits into your dietary goals.
&) Quit demonizing particular types of food.0 -
I don't like sweet food at breakfast and I don't eat eggs, either. I like to eat a toasted bagel thin or english muffin with cream cheese and sliced tomato. Sometimes I'll eat a bagel/eng. muffin with goat cheese, arugula and the slightest drizzle of honey. This morning I had a Morningstar Farm griller on a toasted bagel thin. I also like to eat a veggie bowl for breakfast, which is usually quinoa/polenta/orzo with beans, some sort of sauce, cooked veggies and a sprinkle of cheese. I like to get my veggies in the morning. When I want something sweet for breakfast, I'll have vanilla yogurt with fruit and nuts or oatmeal with nuts and dried fruit. I need my breakfast to stay with me for a long time, or else I'll be snacking at 9am and that sets me up for a downward spiral for the day.0

I make a breakfast casserole with egg beaters, green peppers, red peppers, onions, low fat shredded cheese, turkey sausage and bake. You can really add anything you want to it. I bake a pan, and there's my breakfast for the week.0

The amount of sugar that's in breakfast cereal (the healthier varieties) is really not that bad, so if you like it and it works for you, I don't think you need to cut it out of your diet. t's hard to beat how quick and easy cereal is. That said, if you want to switch it up, I suggest going with a whole wheat bagel and low fat cream cheese and a piece of fruit, or yogurt with fruit. Eggs and toast are a good option too, if you have a little bit of time to make them in the morning.
I often make "Egg Muffins" for the work week. Here's how I make them: add chopped broccoli and bell peppers (any veggies are fine, frozen works as well as fresh), beaten eggs, splash of milk and a bit of shredded cheese and bake in muffin cups at 350 for about 20 minutes. The amounts of each ingredient can vary widely and the recipe still works. Variations I like include spinach, feta cheese, bacon, potato, etc. You can make a large batch of these in advance and keep them in the fridge or freezer then just warm them up wrapped in a paper towel when you need them.0 -
Oatmeal! I really only like the "Revolution Oats" brand, though. The blueberry muffin, or brown sugar is super good - sometimes I'll add in a bit of peanut butter.
Scrambled egg with spinach, hot sauce, and a bit of cheese paired with a piece of toast - dave's killer bread is my favourite. I also don't have much time in the morning so I bought a microwave egg cooker. It's just a little thing I put the egg in, and put it in the microwave for a minute and it's done.
Also, juicing, if it's something you're into. I juiced 4 carrots, 3 apples, 1 cucumber, handful of spinach, and 1/4 of a lemon today, split the juice with my boyfriend and ate a piece of toast.0 -
oatmeal, eggs, and low-sugar yogurt and fruit are the only things I'll eat for breakfast. Like you, I LOVE cereal but it's processed and full of sugar. I had to cut it out. Experiment with a few ideas and you will find new healthy foods you like0

For me, I need protein fo keep me full for breakfast. I enjoy turkey sausage on an english muffin. Keeps my belly full.0

No, not at all. I still eat lots of cereal. The only difference now is that I measure it out and log it in my food diary.0 -
personally while at home I prefer a good cooked breakfast. Had eggs and ham with spinach this morning. Gives me a good protien start and its filling. However, I will resort back to my oatmeal or yogurt breakfast once I return back to work. Routine works best for me, and skipping breakfast is out of the question these day. By the way you look fantastic. This year Im hitting the work out hard, and trying to loose the last bit of my weight.0
