Is there a missing comma in the last sentence? A self-inflicted wound perhaps?

I was hoping for more of a twitch, but this will do too.

    I'm unique, like everyone else.

I cringe when I hear improper word usage. My mother and paternal grandmother insisted I use proper English. I corrected my children while they were young. Somewhere, there's been a breakdown in communication.

My mother grew up, very poor, in a remote area. She walked 6 miles to reach her school bus stop and dropped out of school as a 9th grader. After marrying and having children, she wanted to improve her speaking skills. Mom began reading grammar books and passed on what she learned to her children. Mom played records containing children's songs and nursery rhymes to put us to sleep at night. Many nights, one of the records she played taught phonics. We played a lot of games that forced us to use brain skills, such as dominoes, Scrabble, and Monopoly.

I was grown before my mother earned her GED, but I was proud of her. I wish more parents had her perseverance and cared enough to educate their children. Parents have to take responsibility, rather than delegating their responsibility to schools. Schools, even good schools, can't erase all the bad habits, or good habits, children pick up from their home environment.

For someone who grew up hating to write, I'm quite wordy. I'll stop now.

I wish their others weren't like me. Then if they were *****ing about their others, it's socking me in the face.

Not sure. I've never met someone like me. Hope I never do. We probably wouldn't get along.
