Detoxing is pointless. Just go back to your normal eating

I also had a pretty indulgent holiday season, so for now what I'm trying to do is: cut out alcohol, "treats" (even small pieces of chocolate), juice (too much sugar), & just drink lots of water & green tea while eating a lighter, balanced diet. Don't do anything extreme!

As the others said, your body doesn't need to detox. If psychologically you want to break with the past, go on a liquid fast for a day. Eat and drink healthy things like fresh vegetable juice and broths and green tea, although a little coffee won't kill ya.

Have you tried the Tom and Jerry detox? It when you shove a mouse up your woo hoo, let it do its thing, then send a cat up there to get the mouse. Celebrities do it all the time.

    Just Kiddng..

Lots of water and clean eating, Let the kidneys and liver do the detoxing.

Every year in January I follow a 30 day detox. I follow the book called "Detox Yourself" by Jane Scrivner. It's a small, well written paperback with is very inspiring. Basically if you read the book you will want to give it a shot as it is so motivational.

It is basically cutting out wheat, meat, alcohol, dairy & caffeine. There is a lot that you cannot eat but there is loads that you can and you don't go hungry!

I have done it about 5 times over the last 10 years. It feels a bit laborious to start off with but once you find your feet the food prep becomes a matter of course. Personally I tend to be very grumpy and tired for the first couple of days but then after about 5 days you will experience a high of boundless energy. It really is quite extraordinary. Another benefit is that you lose a few inches on your belly which is not to be sniffed at.

The book is available on Amazon and is not expensive - give it a shot - you've got nothing to lose.

Your progress says 2lbs lost. Obviously this has not worked well, right?

Eat light and clean for a week and take lots of green tea (or herbal if you're sensitive to caffeine). I find that I'm most bloated after over-doing it on the sugary, carby, or salty stuff, so cut way back on that - maybe more than you would otherwise. And get plenty of water.

MOST IMPORTANT: Don't go on a harsh "cleanse"-type diet. This will only set you up for more of the same later.

I'm not a fan of detoxing, I think healthy eating and lots of water and regular exercise are all you really need BUT, if you feel you need to follow a plan. Look up Dr. Ian Smith Fat Smash Diet and do phase one. It's a nine day 'detox' designed to rid your body of toxins and you of bad eating habits. Good luck.

^^THIS^^ I am in the same boat! The only thing we can do is get back to eating better (the cleaner the better), drinking plenty of water, maybe more then normal, and stopping the crappy eating & drinking. WATER is the main key in this too! CHUG IT!!!!

  • Drink lots of water, up your veggie intake and go back to "healthy eating." You'll bounce back in no time!

I do a 3 day fruit flush by Jay Robb. Works great for me - easy to follow - not harsh and really helps to get back on track.

^^ Not a shred of evidence (or sense)
"SHRED combines a low GI diet, meal spacing, and meal replacements. Those who follow SHRED will constantly be eating, 4 meals or meal replacements (soups, smoothies, shakes) and 3 snacks a day, over a six week program.

SHRED also introduces Dr. Ian’s concept of “Diet Confusion”. Diet Confusion, like muscle confusion, tricks the body and revs up its performance. In the same way you need to vary your workout to see results, switch up your food intake to boost your metabolism."

So much wrong, AND seen on Dr. Oz...

Stop eating crap but continue eating good foods. Shop the outside of the grocery store, go to a market if you can. Veggies, fruits, meats, whole grains and dairy if you like. back to basics.
Your body doesn't need a cleanse, it needs nutritious foods everyday. Set goals for your macros (the default MFP 15% protein is laughable) and stick to them.

That pretty much says it all.

Cleanses/detoxes are just another diet hoax intended to bilk desperate people out of their money. They're backed only by pseudoscience/junk science and are of no benefit.

Fruits and veggies and of course lots of water. Cut your processed foods - that alone should help with the bloatedness. Eat real food - if it has ingredients in it - don't eat it - so eat, lean proteins, fruits, veggies, eggs. I find it hard to eat completely real so what I do is try to eat nothing that is made out of a box or a frozen dinner, that should cut down quite a bit on the sodium.

As many have pointed out, detoxing is not healthy. But, I have seen several people do the Whole30 as a detox. The site claims it acts as a reset button, but you eat your calories, just from healthier foods (nothing processed, lean meats, whole grains, veggies, fruit, etc.). It's essentially just eating healthier like everyone has suggested, but if you insist on following a PLAN, I'd say that's a good place to start.

You should not be hungry at all if you eat a balanced nutritious diet and the right amount of overall calories for your activity level. Eat nine servings of low sugar fruits and non starchy vegetables, three servings of reduced fat dairy a day, oily fish daily, nuts and seeds a couple of times a day, modest servings of beans and lentils. Nothing processed or with white refined grains, added salt, sugar or sweetener, avoid potatoes and wheat for a while they are high glycaemic index. That will supply all the fibre, protein and healthy fats you need for satiety, minerals like potassium and magnesium to help flush/ balance sodium.
