^I was moving this to a different section of a facebook argument I was having about why it's detrimental to the gay community for gay people to act flamboyantly. The original comment was, "It's the "us vs. them" thing that bothers me, and I think it would be a much easier world for LGBT people, especially in terms of acceptance, if half of us didn't walk around talking in a different accent than those not in the community. It creates a divide. It says, "I come from a different culture." And that's great, if you actually come from a different culture, but for heaven's sake, it's not a culture. It's a sexual preference. It reduces one, and, by association, everyone who also happens to participate in that preference, from a person to a sex-act."

Reminder to Fifth Grade Parents:

Two presentations will be held during January, to give parents an opportunity to preview films that will be shown during health class in the spring. These films, Just Around the Corner for Boys and Just Around the Corner for Girls, and AIDS, Facts for Kids, are shown during the Human Growth and Development unit of the fifth grade health curriculum. The screenings will take place at Roosevelt School. These optional previews are as follows:

•Parent only preview: Tuesday, January 8th, 2013, at 7pm, at Roosevelt School
•Parent with student preview: Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013, at 7pm, at Roosevelt School.

This is just a friendly reminder. Letters were mailed home to parents in early December, notifying them of the preview opportunities. If you wish to preview these movies at home, they are available at the Park Ridge Public Library.
