Heart rate monitor question.

So I have a wrist HRM. It doesn't have a chest strap. I bought this one uneducated about the chest strap being more accurate. I plan on getting one eventually but since I just bought this one ill have to wait for money to open up again.

My question is since mine doesn't have a chest strap and I manually have to check my heart rate on it. I know the more you check it the more accurate.

For instance, I do Zumba every day for an hour. I probably check my heart rate every 5 minutes. I average about 500 calories burned on the watch per hour. How accurate can I count that? Experience?

Thanks guys!

I have a HRM taht is worn around the wrist and you use your finger tips to get your heart rate and then it gives you your calories burned I think it is accurate I have worn it and been on a treadmill that I put my stats in and it was very very close So yes I think that sound about right

Yes, you can definitely count that. I have an HRM with chest strap, but on the days I forget the strap, I do what you do, and check it in between songs at Zumba. sometimes I'll try to check it during a song, just to get the added recording in there. It usually puts me at 500-550 total, and with chest strap I usually burn between 500-650 so I'd say it's pretty accurate for no strap.

The ones with the chest strap are said to be a better measurement of hard workouts but not accurate with daily totals like the wristwatch. I have a watch too and have found it to be quite accurate. I like getting the number of steps and mileage as with total daily calories. It helps me to move more to get more steps in. I have lost every pedometer and would also forget to put it on.
