Hello. I am new to myfitnesspal and Im looking forward to reading the message boards to help me in my weight loss journey. I'm getting married in July and would like to lose 'at least' 20 pounds! I have one question, with my food choices and to lose the most weight, am I watching my carbs or just calories on this ?
thanks!

Welcome, I watch all of them, calories, carbs, etc..... I also keep an eye on my fats..... I dont always worry about my sugar intake as I eat alot of fruit, drink plenty of water & eat cleanly, fresh fruit & vegetables, lean meat, fish etc.... feel free to add me if you like..0

Hi! Welcome - this is a great site to be on. As far as watching your carbs or your calories - get ready for the great debate! The opinions will be coming roaring in anytime now. I personally find that I have much more success with lowering my carbs (that ought to get them going!) Contrary to popular opinion, I don't suffer cravings; in fact, I feel much better/less bloaty feeling.
You have to find a plan that will work for you. Have you ever dieted before? Track your meals, use the database but be careful as there are a lot of entries that are inaccurate in nutrient content (some people don't enter in all the nutrients). You're going to hear about BMR, BMi, TDEE, calorie deficit, heavy lifting, etc. etc. etc. My advise - take what you need and leave the rest behind! Good luck!0 -

I'm new, too. Started yesterday and while I can't exercise because of pending surgery and then recovery, I started yesterday with a 1200 calorie exchange diet to get rid of 20 lbs or so.
Doing a combination of the Mayo Clinic diet (the real one) and an ADA 1200 cal exchange diet because I need more protein than the Mayo clinic diet allows for. Was 3 lbs lighter this morning and although I am sure it is "water weight," I don't care.
Looking forward to watching everyone's progress!0 -
I think it is both.
Try to find how many calories you can eat a day and still lose weight.0
