I have a new scale in my bathroom, and I've been weighing myself at least once a week, if not more, with the scale against the wall. i'd stand on it normally, wouldn't lean or anything, and I though that was an accurate weight. The other day the scale had been pulled away from the wall by a roommate, and when I weighed myself, the scale read almost 15 pounds more than it did the day before when it was against the wall...does anyone know which way the scale is more accurate? I signed up for MFP with my weight when the scale was pulled out, and I don't know if that's the right weight.

Two things:
1: When you first move the scale it might be inaccurate. Weigh yourself twice when you move the scale and use the second weight.
2: If the scale was pushed hard against the wall, some of the weight could have been distributed into the wall or the edge of the scale could have been catching on the wall or trim board so that your full weight wasn't on it.
Try weighing yourself somewhere else too and see what the scale reads.0 -
is the scale level and balanced? I would keep it against the wall if thats how your doing it, i dont move my scale at all.0

okay thanks! it's not pushed hard against the wall, but I will definitely move it0

Is the scale analogue or digital?
Basically, analogue scale will vary depending on how it's positioned and how your weight is distributed on it. Digital scales are designed to average the reading from at least four corners, giving you a close reading regardless of how you stand on it/how it's balanced.
The nerdism behind it: Analogue scales have one spring that basically manually tugs on the dial and can be "tricked" into reading less by standing on it a certain way. Digital scales have four or more strain gauges, which are arranged in series to average the reading from each, making it generally a bit more accurate.
If your scale is digital and the readings are varying drastically, it's a very very poor/malfunctioning scale and you should exchange it.0 -
I agree with what everyone has already said about the scale... I personally dont use a scale.. but if you ever have those days where the scale lets you down, take measurements.. they will never lie0

yeah, its a digital...I'll exchange it. Thank you! (:0

I trully agree with the rule of weighting yerself not more often than once a week , preferably very early in the morning when i'm so tired and confused by reality that i dont try to stand and balance strangly to get lower reading . Mesurements are fine too ,but best weight control is how easly you put and zip yer pants
Digital appears to be most accurate from what i gathered. Mine is big glassy and german, so i might have history of passive agressive attitude towards eachother in past years but its generaly dependable0
