Should I eat even if i'm not hungry?

If i'm supposed to eat at least 1200 calories a day and I eat every time i'm hungry but it still doesn't
add up to 1200 calories am I supposed to keep eating til I reach 1200?
When I get hungry I usually eat an apple and wait a few minutes to see if i'm really hungry so that I don't
overeat. Most of the time the apple (or other fruit) gets rid of my hunger for a little while at least.
I love food but when I do eat I feel full after a few bites.
(I had an eating disorder when my mother passed away that made my stomach shrink, or so the doctor said)

  • Don't eat when you're not hungry. Eating when you're not hungry would usually store the food as fat. You can drink water and wait for 15 minutes. If you still feel hungry, then eat.

While you don't want to stuff yourself you should aim to increase your calories; try eating more calorie dense foods like nuts, avocados, and nut butters instead of the apple. Just as filling for a small snack but higher calories; your body needs those healthy calories to function properly. Too low for too long only causes more problems later... tons of threads on this too!

I agree with calorie dense foods. 2tbsp of peanut butter alone is around 200cals. 2tbsp of olive oil to cook in is 240.

Eating too little for too long will cause your body to make changes to adapt to the new energy intake.

Why do you have yourself set at 1200?

Given the information on your ticker, I'd suggest a caloric deficit of roughly 250 a day, not more than that.

Eat more, choose calorie dense foods if needed. Instead of skim milk, whole milk for example.

If you are having trouble eating 1200 a day, you need never fear overeating.

yes eat even if you're not hungry 1200 calories is borderline low (in my own opinion).
  • I upped my calorie goal and it made a big difference. I used to just make 1200 calories in a day, now I can barely stop at 1700! Sneaking peanut butter into things is always a delicious way to get those calories :)
