is it bad to eat more than your alotted protein grams?

I seem to go into the red on protein but i still have plenty of calories left for the day.
Will eating more protein than MFP says I need affect my weight loss if I am still within or below my alotted calories?

Seeing the negative sign and the red next to protein section makes me : (

Many thanks to whomever supplies some insight on this.

  • Thanks for your question Cottonlala, that's exactly what I've been trying to find out too. I'm alotted 45 protein grams, so it appears a piece of fish or chicken, with one egg and some milk and I'm way over. I'm new to dieting so it's a big learning curve. I've always had chicken/fish for lunch and then more protein for dinner. I didn't think it was so wrong.

I have been told that your weight time .37
so for me....140 times .37 equals 51.8 grams daily
I do get more than that because I drink a protein shake after I work out...

I have read that extra protein may help with osteoporosis and obesity...
  • Thank you Tamera35 and Dakryn for your swift replies.
I feel like it's no biggee to be over on protein as long as you are within your alotted calories. It might even be good for muscle recovery which would explain why I eat more of it after a heavy workout...especially weights. But I'd still like to be re-assured that going over on protein is not gonna derail any goals. Seems like if they are putting how much you're supposed to have and then pointing out when you've gone over...well, it bugs me because why would they make it all red and negative if not to get my attention like "Hey, don't do this". But it doesn't make sense to me that over protein would be bad. Ugh, still hoping for clarity on this.
