    Why 1000 calories a day?

Idk how tall you are but you could probably eat 1600 calories a day and exercise for an hour and lose weight. And not be hungry, or weak, or lose a crap ton of Lean body mass. (Although you will still lose some. Unfortunately when we diet we don't only lose fat. We lose muscle, too.) Nowhere legitimate will encourage you to eat anything less than 1200 a day, especially to only lose 20 lbs. Not even MFP.

Hi welcome to myfitnesspal. I love this app. I am 5'0 and have been on a 1200 calorie a day since Oct 25, averaging an hour of excersise a day. I have lost 22lbs. Three things I have tried to stick by: 2 serving of fruit, 3 servings of vegetables, 8 cups of water everyday. I read if you drink 16oz in the morning before you start your day it gets your metab. going. Good luck! :flowerforyou:
  • i filled out the info this website askd for it says i should eat 1200 calories a day but i asked a trainer in the gym i go and he said for me to be able to loose weight i should eat at least 200 cal less
  • im 5'1" and i weigh 155 im pretty heavy foy my height so thats what a trainer recomended im new at this so i dont know much about it
  • 1000 calories is too low. Your body will go inot starvation mode, slow the metabolism and you will end up not losing weight. In fact you may gain. Min is 1200 calories.
  • That is bad advice. If you need to be lower than 1200 calories, increase your exercise instead.
