Working out first thing in morning...

I have come to the realization that I looked my best when I got up every morning and exercised before breakfast....Why is this? There is so mixed literature out there, but do you guys think that working out before eating REALLY burns more fat?? It's all mental getting up early and having that burst of energy to get a good workout in, but I'm definitely going to try to do this at least 3-4 days per week and see how it goes!

I enjoy working out in the morning than in the afternoon or evening. Sometimes I don't feel like exercising in the afternoon after work. Plus with appointments in the afternoons. I do at least 24 min. of cardio and have energy all day and now I walk or do some more cardio in the afternoons. Twice a week I do resistance bands to tone. When I do the cardio in the morning sometimes I use the weights. I have been doing the Biggest Loser Cardio Max and use the weights every other day to recover the muscles.:flowerforyou:0

I work out every morning (somedays at 5:15 others at 6:30) I am too wiped at the ended of the day and/or something always comes up. As hard as it is to get up, there aren't any other distractions to keep me from doing my workout (kids/family/TV) I just get up, get dressed and GO!! On the majority of the days I do have about a half cup of coffee to just give me that extra energy. There are a few days that when I get up and my stomach is already grumbling, so I have something quick like a vitatop, a spoonful of peanut butter or a piece of cheese to just get me going...I know there ha sbeen alot of talk about eating before/after your workout...I think if we just pay attention to what our bodies are telling us we will all be fine...0

I don't know if it burns more fat, or if it's better for you. I do know that when I get up at 5:15 to do my exercise in the morning (I feel like a faker to call it a work out) that I feel great the rest of the day. I have more energy, I don't need my coffee, I have clearer looking skin. I do the EA Active for the Wii. I am working on the easy level of the 30 day challenge (half way through). It is 20 minutes max. I also go for a 30 minute walk at lunch.

I think the science behind it is secondary to the fact that if you have the drive and commitment to get up every morning and workout then you are going to succeed at your goals because you are at the point mentally where success is the only possible outcome. Also, the rest of your life will follow because that level of commitment doesn't just stop at 7am when the workout is over. About a week ago, I went into Lexington to get a new tattoo. I went there with about ten ideas and worked with the artist, Stu, to develop them. After some talking, we decided on one, and Stu drew something up. Now where to put it…
There were a few options—calf, forearm, or rib/stomach (side panel). My first inclination was to put it on my left forearm to begin the completion of my sleeve. Stu didn’t like the way it would flow with the other work though so I was left with my calf and side panel. The sick *kitten* that they are, the whole shop suggested that I get it done on my side. They’ve all been through it, but they couldn’t hide their smirks. I knew how painful this area was.
So I decided to put it there.
After drawing it up and fitting me for it, I laid down on the table, and the work began. As soon as Stu started, the rest of the shop came in and started laughing. They knew there was no going back. They even took pictures to document the pain. But I can appreciate the humor in that.
Now I don’t make any claims of being a tough guy. I once heard someone say, “The only thing that hurts me is pain.” This is my philosophy. As the ribs were done, I was yanking on my arms and about dislocated my shoulder. The table was covered in sweat, and my teeth were grinding. I have had both arms done, my elbows, hands, wrists, and the ditch (the area opposite the elbow). Nothing can even compare to this.
During the tattoo, Stu said something to me that I believe everyone should know. It applies to training, tattoos, and just about every part of life—“Jim, a lot of people want a tattoo, but no one wants to deal with the pain. You are going to earn this tattoo, and you will be proud.”
I heard those words and couldn’t believe such prose was coming from Beef Stu! But the point is that there are so many people who want things in life, yet they are unwilling to deal with the pain. Many people have never had to sacrifice in their life and don’t deal well when the **** hits the fan. These people fail when the first sign of struggle occurs. Others are too afraid. These people never even attempt anything and live a life of mediocrity. Others will never have to do so and will live in their version of Utopia, the world of the socialite and trust fund. I prefer to live in my Utopia—a world of success (and many times failure) built by work and sacrifice.
So my question to you and something you have to ask yourself is this—are you willing to take the pain for five more pounds? Are you willing to do what it takes to total elite? How bad do you want to bench press 500 lbs?
If you are honest with yourself, then you will know the answer. There is no shame in admitting to yourself that you can’t do what it takes. This is actually healthier than living in a haze and a lie. But if you are willing to take the pain (physical and mental), my hat is off to you. You are part of a special breed, and we welcome you with open arms. Just don’t hug me too tightly—I’m still sore as hell.

I am terrible at working out in the morning. My runs are always slower.. I attribute it to my lack of blood sugar and tight muscles. But, I think this is mostly an excuse.
I do feel good all day - and its weight off my shoulders as I don't have to do it later.. there are studies that say it burns more fat throughout the day and keeps your metabolism up.
My take? If you can get up and do it and feel great about it - keep it up!!0
